agreed, FL is good progam for amature msuic producers. takes a little to learn, but it's extremely good after that, and is very useful for drums.

also is Reason, again some learning to do about how to setup effects to a synthasizer, but it's part of the fun of experimenting. but this won't allow you to use other music synths and effects (called VST'S) that FL studio does.

either of these, you can't go that wrong with.

I'd say Cubase. Fruity loops is indeed beautifully simple, but you can achieve the same with the same level of ease with Cubase imo - and you can then push it further. As an indication, compare the two starting layouts . . . Fruity loops, though easy to lay down beats, is quite poorly designed in some ways I think. Cubase on the other hand is nice and simple, and certainly better for structuring a song. I recently discovered My Mistake the drum map on Cubase as opose to the piano roll . . . and that took away the last advantage fruity has. You can make beats just as esily in Cubase.

EDIT: I just noticed Im now a wicked producer. Raggo!!! And to think that I thought that becoming a wicked producer was all about hard work, technical know how, talent and inspiration - when in fact its all about how much you post on drumnbass.bE Big Grin

If you have a strong enough computer (eg. processor at 2ghz) an ideal solution is rewiring of fruity loops and reason. the rewiring is easy for setup also, and will allow using two synchronised programs at once (such as these two)

To prevent Munky from being squeezed between opinions of what program is better and subjective preferences, i'd say it doesn't really matter that much.
In fact, most common programs for musicmaking all come donw to the same basics: sequencing, midi, audio,... the only REAL difference is the interface, the lay-out, the user-friendliness.
I think that with Reason and Fruityloops you are set for e very decent beginning of music-making, you wouldn't believe (i speak for reason here since i've been using for a couple of years now - but to each his own..- ) how far these app's can go in fact.
Once you're beyond the initial fase, you can easliy proceed to the more 'serious' software, being, Cubase, Logic, Sonar,... all via the ultra handy rewire-protocol.
I often think that too many people are wasting their time on discussing what makes one synth better than the other, but LOT's of synths work with the same parameters: lfo, oscillators, pm, ADSR,...
Don't loose your head in that discussion ==> less is more..
