Free and very good, but not very good looking and not that easy to start with... but the helpfile should contain enough info to get you started

Try the software u got with ur soundcard, it will do. Or try Nero wave editor, it most probably came along with ur cd-burner for free, but u have to record in wav first &than convert to mp3/whatever. Or try the recording module in winamp.

I've seen my sis use it in linux to edit her MD-recordings of performances of her (violin & folk & stuff
) - so I recommended it some time ago to someone looking for linux-sound-editing tools, and noticed that it was also available for MacOSX & Windows, which is cool offcouse
So actually you should thank her, but she won't like it prolly, cause then she would have helped creating "computer noise", she's seriously short-sighted on that level
(and I have to live with that
)

If i remember Goldwave used to be shareware and it was close to commercial softwares like soundforge wavelab or cool edit.. try it
