So, someone asked what I did to get my basslines tight.
Mostly it goes somewhat like this.
I take the sample (duh)
I put some slight distortion on it to give the high end on the distortion part of the sample a bit more brilliance, coz the samples tend to sound a bit lowfi. Mostly I go for the Tape model on the Scream 4 since it gives some kind of 'beefing up' effect.
If I use other distortion models, they tend to give a lack in bass, so in that case I split the signal in a hi/mid chanel, and a bass chanel, which I then distort with the Tape setting.
If it's a reece, I put a compressor on both channels, go get a nice straight volume envelope, no LFOing on neither channels.
If it's a distorted kick bassline, I like putting some compression on teh hi/mid for staightening it out a bit, since the hi/mid freq's are mostly a bit lower in level due to compression on the sample. On the bass chanel I sometimes add a little compression with slower attack to give it some extra punch, if I feel the sample I'm using can use that.
Then I EQ both channels using the simple parametric EQ that comes with Reason. For a warm bass I set the Freq to 9 or 10, Q to 64 and then boost to taste.
For a nice raw distortion I like boosting the 4k freq since it gives it a sweet edge.
Having only 2 customizable parameters on this EQ device is a bit limiting, so mostly I end up using 2 or 3 units per chanel, to get just the right combination of boosts/cuts with the right Q's.
Seldomly I add some final compression, but this is very rare.
Hope it helps you a bit!

im gonna try this one day, see where i end up.
yesterday i boosted my snare at 200Hz and cutted everything below 60Hz from my kicks, which gave a fuggen nice break

oh yeah, tell me about it! once I tried using 8 eq's on a single channel in a (failed) effort to beef it up.. and yeah, it was one of those "not tape" types of distortion on the scream 4. and if you want to notch several freq's out it can be a pain too and again you pile up a silly amount of eq devices..

No, I simply use the NN-19 for most basslines.
Also: Sometimes, if a sample doesn't have enough bass, or the bass isn't deep enuf, I put the same sample on the second channel, but one octave down.

Coz I don't like the sounds coming from there. The sounds I'm looking for have ANALOGUE distortion on it, I find DIGITAL distortion only usefull for beefing up analogue distorted sounds a bit. So 100% synthetic sounds just aren't my taste. That's why I'm planning on buying some of them guitar distortion units: perfect for bassline distortion
I have made basslines with the Maelstrom and Substractor befor, by the way, check my tune "Fucking Clowns"

I was at my local music store yesterday and i was trying out a few different guitar distortion pedal's on a Nord Lead...Then my buddy whom work's there showed up and introduced me to what is probably the best guitar distortion pedal ever for running a synth threw..It has one feature that almost all distortion pedal's don't have,..a really good filter so you can maintane the high or low in your overall sound which is a reall problem with most distortion pedal's,.. you end up loosing one or the other,..high or low that is..This pedal is small and cheep too and dam does it ever do the trick,..never heard of it or saw it for it's really basic looking, and it was hidden under a pile of more coulorfull boxes and pedal's..which is probably why i never thought to try it!!!!This pedal is the shit Surya!! $120.00..canadian!!
