jus wonderin whether peps here master their stuff by applying mastering tools onto the master channel and mix/ master as one process...or export the mixdown first as a single wave and master that individual file?
does either method have any big pro's/con's? Confused

I use both.

Mix in DAW
has the advantage that when mastering you might suddenly notice minor bad stuff (levels, freq peaks, clashing freqs etc...) where you weren't really taking notice before. You can then still correct it very easily without having to go through a long and boring rendering process.

Mastering when exported:
You can let somebody else do it Big Grin
You can use tools like Har-Bal or similar stuff.
You don't need CPU power for VST's that are needed to "create" the tune so you can go full force for mastering.

Watch this if you want to know more about mastering. There are lots of videos from the same guy...

i put a limiter on my master , and export my track (with limiter on) as wav

bounce the wav back in , and apply mastering to it

this way your dynamics are fucked but you can go loud baby Smile

for me export to hi bit rate wav then master the exported file every time jus my laptop does not have the cpu to cope with running ozone on the master channle of a full project

techniquly mastering in the same project shud deff be the best way cos like sum 1 sed u can quickly alter the mix at any piont. but exportin first has the phycological advantage of forcing me to ensure my mixdowns are as gud as they can be and treating the mixdown and mastering as two deffinate seperate processes, wich is gud, and that way u allways end up with at least 1 mastered version and 1 pre-mastered. i suppose it keeps you more organised to export first.

i allways export to 450kps wav i s this neccesarry how low a bit rate cud i go b4 the quality wud be audioble affected?
