anyone tried this and got any decent results?

ive tried experimenting with this technique on my drums master track but cant really hear a great deal of difference other than it being louder.....i guess the idea is too over-compress or crush the drums to add character and mix the crushed signal with the dry drum signal to get a fuller drum sound, jus makes the drums sound louder when im trying it. im sticking a compressor on a send channel and comrpessing the hell out the drums then sending part of the signal to the drum track, to mix it with the dry signal. if anyone has managed to use this technique to good effect to would love to hear it and what difference it makes????

so are you duplicating your drum master track, 1 being dry, 1 being wet then balancing the levels? or can it work having the compressor on a send channel then sending the desired amount of the wet signal to the dry channel to mix the two?

watched a couple videos on you tube about it and it does seem like a good technique, pretty simple too it seems and acheives good results making the drums sound much more lively.

btw ghost checked out your myspace, loving the henchman tune, that bass is lush, how did you create it, love the pulsating feel of the bass on the reece, how did you create that effect?

yea they used that a lot on mo-town record vocals, but instead of compression like a compressor you can use overdrive/exicter, it helps add energy
  that's what i use.

most compression vst's have mix settings that do it easier, liek the compressor i love and rave about PSP MixPressor

wow a mix setting built into it, oh wait , snap, all effects in fl have that set-up for everything ot he right of the effect. but yea, you got a whole combi patch that does that, awsome, i bet it took you only about 10 minutes to set it up andw ire it.
yea that's right i dised reason still.

with every effect i try to do that mix, in photoshop it's like using the opacity setting, it still there, just not as strong, it's nice to hae an effect but with a bit of the oringal to keep it pure soudng, with a hint of (flanger/gritty distortion/reverb/grey scale)

Right then, I don't know much about compression, but from what i've just read on another site, is parallel/ new-york compression basically your dry sound playing along side a compressed version???
