How to get that Jump Up sound |
|
So I was poking around Beatport today, and I decided to swing by the Jump Up subsection of Drum & Bass. I REALLY like that sound (despite my habit of sounding very Jazzstep/IDM-ish most of the time), and I'm curious as to how to get that jump up sound? As in, pattern wise, velocity/compression wise, how to get that wild-yet-controlled sound?

try holding down one note on a monophonic bass synth while playin other notes. Experiment with the portamento (or glide).

Analyse exisiting tracks you like,
try to copy their sound (not samplewise but the style and structure) to figure out how it works,
experiment,
experiment,
experiment...
Don't try to catch music in a formula, it's deadly for your creativity.

also. jump up is a digital sound, so try not to use acoustic samples and such.
go for big synths, for high melody and for low bass. go for solid tight beats.
one of the easier styles to produce i think, especially if you dig it.

Oh yeah, thatone
By the way, almost all of the sound in that track are 100% self made, save for the vocals and some snare samples (if I remember correctly)
