What synths does everyone use for Sub-Bass?
I have been using the subtractor in reason 3... but it lacks that certain something.
I also find that some bass enhancing VSTs add unwanted harmonics, so I think its probably best to start off with something good than to try to boost it later.

You have to tune your sine until you find the "sweet spot", the bass will start to hum nicely then. I just use a pure sinewave from any synth

Mate that isnt a sweet spot.
That sounds more like a standing wave in your studio. |
I've always been told that the "sweet spot" is exactly the point where the bass hums best (topping around 40Hz). I know there's another thing they call the sweet spot (no not your avatar); the place where your head should be in the room to get the most out of the sound from your monitors.

i dont think it matters what software u use to create sub bass, a simple sine wave should cover it.
whats all this talk of tuning the sub bass until it hits a 'sweet spot'?, that does sound like an acoustics problem to me but if anyone can shed any light on tuning sub bass that would be much appreciated.
i usually try and 'tune' the sub bass so it fits perfectly with the kick and then eq the sub bass to notch out frequencies to allow the kick and other bass parts to come through, how else do people 'tune' their sub bass?

I am using NI massive for nearly all my synth work and was wondering if there is a pure sine wave form on it? If there is i cant seem to find it. there only seems to be stuff like saw-sine and tri-sine etc.

turn the wave knob all the way to the left and you have a pure sine

pretty much any synth can do it well enough.
depends what kind of sub you want tho. a flat sine to just hangggggg..... easy.. just switch the wave to sine
it can sound a bit too flat with no fx tho imo.
or sub bangs. for the bangs... just edit a very short, sharp, pitch down on the attack pitch.
check the sub-focus video tutorial for more. its around somewhere.

Ark, it isn't a stupid question mate. What seems obvious to experienced producers isn't necessarily so for beginners, so give the guy a break. Hell, I didn't even know what the piano roll in FL was for at least a month! And I certainly didn't know what a sine wave was or how to get one. (Actually, if truth be told, I'm still not that sure what all the different wave forms are!

The SINE is actaully one of te most amazing WAVEFORMS. it is a SINGLE HARMONIC. all sounds, ALLLLL SOUNDS, are made up of SINE WAVES!
you can make all the other waveform shapes no matter what they are by adding sine waves together. there's not a wave form that can't be made like this.
a sine is a pure harmonic. it's like if you play one at 50hz it's just 50hz playing, not a single other other freq.
Square wave is made up by playin a sine wave for every otehr note, basicly, all the odd harmonics. an each one with a bit less velocity then the one before.
the Saw wave is made up of every third harmonic. which if you know about music the third and sixth notes don't give that happy of a sound as the 2nd and 4th do, as with the square wave, hence why dnb uses the saw so much, because it has a lot darker harmonics.
it's simply a beautiful thing, because each harmonic is actually a note. and even if you came from outer space you'd still be able to identify a harmonic as a sine wave it's almost an universal sort of thing. all molecualse are made up of sine waves, all matter in the universe is a sine at a different freq.
mmm i love sines.
