depends on the tune ur making ,if u want a reece driven track ;use it during the entire track ; if not use it in buildups to create contrast to the drop ;

a reece is like a filtered sound that could be two saws detuned from eachother that is filtered and layered over your bass sound. or another filtered synth or eqed to make your synth sound fatter and like something is making it move more.... atleast thats what i think it is...

yeah 'beating' is very common in drum and bass...haha
anyway i think the most common one is detuned saw waves...
