hi there some of you might remember me posting a thread askin 4 help serious help. Big Grin
anyways months l8r some good responses and a lot of practicing im more or less still on the same boat Devil
i read through these threads coz basically i can start a basis of a tune have a pretty ok bassline that i make with a 3xosc in fruity i try and take drum hits instead of breaks to make my own patterns i use synth samples for my melody.
but what hacks me off is that i dont know what im doing when it comes to beeefin things up and then when i find a thread it has terminoligy which im no good at.
for example. i make a bline i use fruity equo where it starts with the lines running across the hz band level 20-10.24k i would cut 20-40 out then from about 80 onwards coz i read it on this fab site then add dist usin ruby tube or tube booster sounds quite good but then add a compresser fruity's own and i get stuck (i need a good exp on e'quing and compressing for starters)..(and usin my 3xosc to good use with explinations in english not jargon thanxxxxx)..
on to my beatz i make a drum pattern usual kik snare rubbish but i need some ooomphh to it i read again about ghosting beats???? aint got a clue who am i gonna call not ghostbusters thats for sure anyways i make a loop and i set each drum hit to its own fx channel right or wrong i dunno...
in all honesty i have the ideas the needs to lay them down but im not good when it comes to the tech bit lfo's waves eq on and on and on...
if someone could give me a bit of there time it would be much appreciated hope to hear from someone soon... Drummer

Basic drum stuff goes like this:

K= Kick
S= Snare
K---S------K-S---

Ghosts are put in between to make the rythm "roll" and get action on the drumline.
k= Ghost kick
s = Ghost snare
h = Hihat
(non capitals used here because the are played with less power).

Drumline could look like this (but there are thousands of variations possible, your only limit is your fantasy)
K-k-S--shshK-S-h-

In the beginning I used single hits too to make a drumline, it's damn hard for a beginner, you might as well use a good break to learn how a DnB rythm works. You can also learn how to use a beatslicer then. If you have a break that sounds good to you, you'll have a bassdrum, snare, ghost drums, hihats, etc that match already.

I know it's a hell of a lot of shit comming at ya when you start, but you have to keep trying and reading and asking and don't try to understand everything at once. It might take you a year of hard work before you get to the bottom of things.

Some jargon you mentioned:
bline= slang for bassline
EQUO is a plugin in FL Studio (version 6 or higher
Cutting 20-40 means you take the vertical sliders for these frequencies down to remove the frequencies from the spectrum
dist = distortion (use a VST plugin to do that)
ruby tube = distortion VST plugin
tube booster is probably similar, don't know this one

As for an EQing tutorial...go here and read it. This is the best you can get and really easy to understand, without the jargon bollocks.

Hope this helps

Working link for tutorial
time stretching: make a sound longer without changing it's pitch, great for vocals.
e-quin = eqing = Equalising = Equalizing = EQ a lot of sloppy writing going on.

cheers m8 what im really tryin to get too is i have ideas i make tunes that probably don't sound bad for a noooob but sumfins still missing.
you know i can lay down a track or start too make one but get stuck on things like how would i time stretch this vocal sample - acapella too fit my track or this drum pattern sounds good but how would i eq my track and instruments to make them all stand out without clashin or distorting with my bass when it drops how too make them really fast drum patterns and hi hat patterns how too and what effects too use on certain instruments and too what effect etc etc
it could go on as i say i dont have much difficulty but it's understanding all the issues in makin music
you know what i mean

As for the effects: experiment a lot.

my tip for your beats is to use one hits AND breaks.
but not just any random breaks. choose them wisely.
try loading in some breaks and taking bits of the break out
so they just sound like fillers. this can have the very nice effect of
filling up your beats.
bass.....
try get as clean a sound as you can with 3x osc, before you process
it with fx like eq, distortion and compression.
once you have a nice sound out of it, you can just do a bit of eq work
and it will sound better. the less fx you need to use, the better.
try using the parametric equalizer too. it can be simpler, as its more visual. e.g... you move a part of the line and the sound changes.
not much need of technical knowledge there, just mess with it till it sounds nicer than it did.
good luck

In order to gain producer rights you need to give some cinstructive feedback on other producers tunes, after doing that for several tunes you can request producer rights. From then on you can upload tunes and get feedback from others too.

The more you give feedback on other peoples tunes the more feedback you'll get on your tunes (it isn't a rule or anything, it just seems to work that way, people are more willing to help you when you are willing to help them).

Try to comment on recent tunes as a tune from 2004 or so is probably not going to be improved anymore.

Cheers!

BTW: don't worry about the quality of your feedback, just tell how you feel about the tunes, you'll learn it along the way. You should especially mention what you think should be changed in order to make the tune better (soundwise, buildup, mixing, ...).

Detailed instructions from our beloved big chief on getting producer rights can be found here.

trust me, its worth it.

O yeah! Feeling this one... get your ass on here Big Grin
Some of the instruments are badly clipping (means: they are too loud)
they need their levels adjusted and you need to cut off some unneeded frequencies (like in the tutorial). But it is very far from a disaster.

That´s weird... Can you see the player on the page?
If yes, what does the progress bar look like? Orange or orange/Grey?
