wats the best/easiest way to make a 'stuttery' lead? i think its called gated. they're used lots in trance/house.

Modulate the volume/mute of your your pad-channel onto some "triggernotes"

You don't have to use notes, you can also use controller changes/LFO to get a wider range in the dynamics of your "volume shifting" pad (not 0-1, but 0-127...), but this wouldn't give the classicl "gate-effect"

When modulating the volume note-on/off, definitly check out to "modulate your modulator" with an (mostly internal) envelpe generator, eg. attack

er. im guessing u mean an arpeggiated sound. the simple answer is find a synth with an arpeggiator on it. check out vangaurd for example

or you could program it yourself. or u could use an lfo to trigger a filter blahblah blahbla blah
