i use cubase sx+rewired reason : da bomb.
(but off course, any decent host will do, most of the time it comes down to sheer personal taste.., and moreover, your knowledge of the software) but i can't fully experience the power of this two goodies combined cuz runnin on an old pc... (but a n,ew DAW is gonna come my way soon..)
only just got my hands on ableton, so gimme some time and i can comment on reason+ableton.

wtf. surely when you rewire none of the reason engine is used???
yup Im running reason on ableton, its perfect. never had any stutter
as for the second question. izotope ozone (eq, compression). reaktor. and rarely some other fx vst's such as nitro.

depends how you rewire. if you rewire just a stereo channel then theres not much point. even if rewiring ten channels theres nt much point cause my tunes usually end up with about fourty tracks running just in reason, im not gonna rewire all of them,my processor would go mental. its less hassle to just export everything as audio and stick it straight in cubase. hence why im probably gonna abandon reason, i only really use recycle and redrum anyway. i can trigger samples via absynth or kontakt and program beats in battery. If i had my way id have a juicy analogue desk with loads of hardware,a massive soundcard and then id maybe think about using just reason synced with a bunch of stuff and mixed via the desk. but i dont so....
anyway.
