Hi all, I've been wanting to try producing my own tunes for a good few years now and it's about damn time I do something about it!
Thing is I know nahfink about producing or DJing. Basically up until recently I thought Fruityloops were something with E numbers in 'em.
Can anybody give me some useful info on starting out or recommend some helpful reading matter?
I'm sure this sort of question's been answered many times before but I appreciate your time and trouble anyway
Cheers

welcome boob.
give up while your ahead and save your hearing !!!
personally id suggest you bin fruity and go for cubase or logic straight up. they have a very steep learning curve but will be worth it in the end (but its all about the third party plug ins!!) most people will disagree on here and say that they are to advanced for a beginner but i say start as you mean to go on. Of course there is always Reason
helpful reading = this forum (most of it anyway)
do some reviews and apply for your producer rights, that way you also get access to the producer section, where theres also some helpful stuff.

I think the issue isn' producing or djing, you have to be able to do both thing. Djing makes you feel the music, producing makes you understand it. A good start is to read this forum, there is also DOA aun spinwarp which have many usefull informations. Last but not least producing good tracks takes time, so don"t expect having the right technique in one month.
Cheers

Yep, you got that right. I am doing this for about 4 years now and still have some troubles getting things as I would like them to be.

Yes DJ'n helps u feel the music, but if u dont FEEL the music when ur making it, then the outcome will not be good at all. I have noticed that u have to have a 'love' for DnB to make it. I see alot of people who dabble in it, but it takes a hardcore head to put the effort into making a good DnB tune imo. RespeKt though do ur thing and posts some tunes up. The easiest/user friendly programs there are: Fruity Loops, Reason, Acid pro, Orion Plat

don't ditch fl !! (is this where the software battle starts all over again
)
it's capable of just as much as reason an cubase (even more to my likings)
just takes lots of time learning it but when u got it'll give u more then satisfying results
moral of the story : STICK TO FLSTUDIO KIDS (ditch school instead
)

good lord the sequencer argument again.
Simple... dont listen to the sequencer battles. its all bullshit anyways. find something you are comfortable with read the manual read some tutorials.. and fiddle.. never stop fiddling. always try something.. even if it sounds like uttter ass. its something.. expierament<sp?>

Cheers for the replies all.
dmccabe: As of Jan/Feb as much time as it takes! Er - well as much time as it takes between full time work and the other commitments I have to do on most evenings
So I guess weekends and most nights
Moneywise I don't want to spend ££££ jjust yet. my plan is to start with the basic necessities and experiment. Then if I can make anything half-decent, go on from there.
While I was typing this I checked out the price of Reason and I reckon it's mucho expensive for a beginner, so I think I'll start with FL and see what I can do with that.

I run with reason, cubase, and abeleton live , but there is a dnb tut 'bout breaks for FL on google
video that you should def check out! And btw, the reason I asked about time and money is that it takes alot of both. Alot of peeps claim that with a couple of hundred bucks and the right "groove" you're set .
But trust, if you really get the bug, you WILL spend more time and money and energy than you
initally thought. I have lost friends/ girlfriends and long commited relationships within the study and
aquisition of my love. Yet for me these are not regrets, thay are reinforcements!
I guess for me it's a dnb thang
They wouldn't unerstand it!
