Easy peeps,
I trust everyone is well and good, Unfortunately I haven't been able to keep up with posts or choons so Im feeling a bit outta touch right now....
Okay i'll come straight out with it
Im travelling in Europe at the moment - and have been for the last 2 months. I'll be coming to Belguim mid-way through December for the final stop on my tour before heading home for xmas. Can any of the Belgian peeps recommend any really good places worth going to? Or good stuff to do (perhaps that isnt so touristy). I know its a bit of a vague question but I have no plans at the moment other than that i'll be driving in from the south, from France. If I could get some insider info from you guys that would be awesome. There's only so much information you can get from a guide book or the Internet.
Also if anyone is up for hooking up at any time then give us a shout - I'd love to get out an meet some people.
Thanks in advance - If I dont reply immedietly its because Im only getting sporadic Internet access at cafes when I find them at the moment.
Peace
Matt

Nothing in Belgium is "very" touristy, well compared to some other places or cities anyway. I guess it kind of depends on what you are interested in. Culture? Old buildings? museums? countryside views? nightlife? anything else?
What I hear from a lot of foreign people is that they like our beach, even though it is filled with mostly ugly concrete buildings.

in this time of the year belgium is nothing more then a grey and wet land were people dont do anything special.
so id suggest , get some booze and some weed , go to the cinema , then go to a youthcafee , then go to a fat party , get fucking drunk high , post your story on the "drunkin' nights on dnb.be" thread and get some sleep
for going out i'd say , pick Ghent (Gent) or Kortijk and plan everything a bit.

Im interested in mostly everything, but I tend to get bored of museums pretty quick. I dont mind doing one or two if they're interesting but I cant go to loads. Architecture & culture are probably what I like best especially if it's traditional or specific to that country. Countryside is all good for hiking etc but if the weather is bad (like it mostly is during December) I'll probably want to be doing stuff thats inside.
Any reccommendations for cities? what are people's favourite and why?
Thanks again dudes!

If you're into architecture you should try to visit Bruges, most of the buildings there are at least a few hundred years old. Someone I know described it as a big, alive, open air museum. I don't have that impression because I come there a lot, but I can imagine that is how you feel when you first visit the city. Even in the shopping streets if you look up from the busy boardwalks and flashy windows you can see some nice things. Brussels and Antwerp have more all kinds of architecture, both old and modern. Liège also has some nice art nouveau buildings.
The museum I most enjoyed from the ones I have visited in Belgium is the PMMK in Ostend, some fine modern art there. (Personally I like it more than London's Tate Modern)
As airfull said, you could also visit Ypres (maybe flanders fields museum) and the surroundings, filled with traces of both world wars. Don't mind if it's cold and raining, that takes you to the right atmosphere for this.
For partying I think Ghent and Antwerp will be most interesting. Antwerp is worth a visit in general too. I don't know those cities that well, so I can't give you any more specific's.
And offcourse.... You should try some of the worldfamous belgian beers and chocolates, but it might be a bad idea to try them both at the same time.

eat belgian fries in a frietekot
drink belgian beers , and there are a lot of em
indeed brugge is a famous city for its culture but you have to like it , imo its not that cool when visiting it in the rain.
in Brussel theres the atomium but its traffic is unbearable plus the atomium is just 9 big balls with a story...
ah and in the south east of belgium there are loads and loads of forest.
called : De Ardennen , may be cool if you like walking in forests but despites the rain again...
and Spa ! yeah thats the body cleansing resort , world famous , also thats famous sprinkling water . spa is the name of the city too. may be cool for being close with yo girlfriend in a hot tub relaxing away from the rain.
Gent: allway party at night , especially thursdays and weekends , all music genres , loads of people

you should visit brugge in 1 day and gent in 4!! Brugge is nice but boring.
Gent lives!!
If you're still in belgium the 21th, you should visit Starwarz(in gent of course), the biggest d&b event in belgium (this edition is with Doc Scott,Blame,Black Sun Empire,Motion Theory..)
