I was given a task to record "a band" with following instruments:
-guitar
-mandolin
-violin
Yes, that's it...
Recording went well, signals are nice and strong, violin sucks but I guess I should habe recorded it in a bigger room with better acoustics with some better mic then SM57...Anyway

When mixing I have obvious difficulty then all 3 instruments seem to occupy the same frequancy band, low end on guitar and high end on violin are clear, but all mids are not that audible, they seem to mask each other.
I am getting away with simple panning but I'd say EQ might help.

These guys, musicians, are a bit sensitive about their own sound so I do not wannt to change it too much. If you have any good tips on how to EQ these 3 instruments as slightly as possible to make sound better please let me know.
Just some strating points would be great...
Or would you consider compressing some instruments to make them sound more tight and clear?

Thanks in advance for any tipz.
