isnt this two seperate threads?

making beats is one thing, best way to learn is to do it.
side chaining is a compression technique.

theres tons of threads already on here about both.
check out this for an idea about side chaining special compression technique

I am just getting the hang of compressing and side chaining the breaks to the bass, and it makes a big difference right when you first start messing with things. You see the difference in which all basslines dont lie with every break anymore. Because the kicks on the beats kick with the bass, and it will either go perfect or semi perfect, or will sound like complete shite. When editing amens, unless you are pretty good at, just layer one hits over the amen, but once you get the hang out of it, there are certain amen friendly breaks that do the job for layering. Edit accordingly, timestretch snares, etc. When wanting a rolling kinda of sound, I just overlay the original amen over my edited one, and edit certain parts of the overlaying so that it flows good, and then I put the volume down so low that it can just barely be heard, and then i take the edited amen, and duplicate it and add low pass filter and cut off all highs so that i get that extra little kick to it.
