What's best?? Are there any differences in soundquality of the synths?
I'm going to do both recordings and midi/instruments.

Not an option! I can't get along with ableton! I think it's leaning towards Logic though.

you can get a command 8 where the 002 is intergrated.
LINK
check out that link ^ ^ ^
buying that would save you lots of money than buy each separatly and you also get some extra plugins with that
|
Yeah, but in sweden there is a bundle with digi002 and command8 that's pretty cheap.

i hate pro tools, good to know how to use it because thats what every studio over here uses. I would choose logic over pro tools in a giffy and wouldnt even bother with reason. logic comes wll packed with evry thing you need to start causing ruckus and they are quality instruments. pro tools if your willing to spen d 20 thousand plus for pro tools HD, if not you are getting the watered down version, it costs an extra 900 (aussy dollars) if you want the omf function and the 002 can only be used with pro tools (im pretty sure) so if after trying tools for a while and you found it to be the un creative block that it truly is you wouldnt be able to integrate it into a more pristine and creative as well as user friendly sequencer like cubase, logic or digital performer you wouldn't ba able to. My advise get an M audio command control whatever its called and logic pro 7 point whatever it us up to now.

if you get a cheap dat machine you can hook it up to the optical cable of the 002 and get 8 more in and outs of it through the dat machine, so you can turn the digi 002 8/8 into a 16/16.
albeton is great for simplicity, it's ment for fast intuitive combination of recording and midi, on the fly, live. hence the name, LIVE.
logic is owned by mac and works well, if not is MADE for the MAC OS, and has some fo the most amazing usages and can go so far in depth. like timestreching and adding groove to audio, i.e. swing to samples. not just midi.
extracing midi notes from audio too.
recording is nice.
oh and synths are amzing sounding, unlike albeton which has one synth.
generally, i'd say get a 002 and logic, and all you'd need is logic to record with.
but recently the two have become intercompatiable, so now it's smart to get them both.
there's a lot in lgoic, and it would be a well made investment.
Reason is nice and has great sounding synths. that's mostly it.
lgoic has everything you'd ever need in midi and synth, the recording can have issues if you have a lot of synths running, but you can freeze them and save cpu space, but then it takes up disk and that's what's recording.
pro-tools has a solid recording if not the most solid recording for any computer program, even ifthe program crashes you can generally still recover the audio. it's very tight, hence why it sells with it's own hardware.
unlike albeton and reason, which i tihnk are grouped with fruity loops, are great programs in there own respect and are useful for specific tasks, only logic and pro tools are standards in the music industry.
pro tools for a long while because of it's supirior recording
logic recently because of it's handling of midi and with external midi input, it has it's own simple easy no hassle system. it allows drum mapping which can give you the presets for most every synth without having to download and type each name in by hand, but will automaticly set it for you. good if you want tog rab some external synths.
basicly, if you want to invest the cash, pro -tools recording, lgoic for everything else. even recording it's quite easy, you can loop record and it will save multiple takes for ease.
later.

pro tools is absoloute shit. its good for recording cos its got good editing facilities but nothing that logic cant do. And logic comes with infinitely more stuff to use to make music. and it all works.

it all works as in a few of the things in reason are just useless... e.g. the foldback distortion of the flanger, which you can tell the sound of from a mile away...(logistics album) pro tools is very stable yeah, more so than logic, but its not so good for midi etc...
