I have seriously been pondering going to audio engineering school. To those who have gone to one of these types of school. Is it worth the money($5500 for 6 month course)? Also, I have been looking into the things they cover, and they also have an audio production course as well for an extra $2500. Now I am thinking I really dont need the audio production course because they will be covering alot of the same things in the engineering class. So what do some of you think?

make sure you are aware of the level they will be teaching at.
make sure its worth the money - basically find out everything about what resources they have and how often you will be able to access them. and dont forget they wont teach you how to make a tune. but you will learn a lot (hopefully)

I did the SAE course. If you want to work as an audio engineer you seriously need to follow a course like this, and it is really good if you want to produce music too.

Yeah I know alot of bands in the punk scene around here and I could almost guarentee me mad jobs once I am complete or while I am doing the course, even though I am probably gonna have to keep my schedule open, since they put alot into a 6mth class. And money isnt the issue because my parents have come to the point that they are willing to do whatever so that I can maintain for the rest of my life, and not have to struggle, so if I complete my dad offered to help me pay for a lil studio setup to startup, but the only thing is I have to complete the course for him to come out of pocket. I dunno but thanks to all who have responded you have helped me solidify my option, and I will be enrolling. RespeKt

Damn i would be all over that except Miami is probably 4 or 5 hrs away, and orlando is maybe an hour and a half. And there is no way I would move out to Miami, it may be nice to people that dont live here, but it looks just like Tampa were i live but not as dangerous

Yeah I went to the SAE in London. I got that Protools certification too and I don't want to blow your hopes but noone has ever asked me if I had them
All they ever ask in this business is who you have worked with.

in my experience at SAE they let you in easily, if you have a little knowledge you'll pass the test. We had some people in our class that seemingly had no background knowledge whatsoever and had most of them failed the course, even though they got accepted in the first place.
Do get prepared for some serious ass studying, I passed the course with 92% but I studied every class a week before we had it so I basically knew everything they were teaching well in advance and had prepared some questions to ask of stuff I didn't understand yet.
I did have a lot of background knowledge, had worked as a studio assistant and amateur live sound engineer before, and did a lot of reading in the year before I went to school, I already read all the documentation twice before my first class
