Whats up everyone. I need some help, I am "attempting"
to make a roller tune. The shaker is a really fast paced one. The only song I have ever heard that had it, was Mampi Swift - Trippin. But I tried to sample it from the song, and I got the shit ass kick in the background from one of the other layered beats under it. Any help??

Try to layer open with a closed hat...
What i mean here is to use the "body" of the open hat and the atack of the closed hat...
To avoid the "bienia" of the hats try to cut down the attack of the open hat ...
You can do this with envelope but I prefer to use Sound Forge and then I use paste special mix...

if you can't fit it, sounds wrong, try to alter the attack and decay settings on the shakers, the groove of the beats depend hevily on those. for that you need to slice the sequence up and set them on each slice, or set them on individual samples, whatever the technique
also, for a very fast paced track, see whats going on with the sample starts. check does the sample play from the hit itself or maybe a few milliseconds before which is common for using sounds chopped off from a recording (it's been humanized) thus not being synced to the beat itself
you will notice if the sample starts on hit when you open it in a wave editor and zoom right to the beginning of it, it will have sort of a fade-in

You can`t layer any or random opened and closed hats
You have to choose the RIGHT SOUND TO LAYER.
Cynik also gave a detailed tips on layering in Sound Forge. I prefer Sound forge because it is more profetional sound editing tool, but if u can`t DEFINE the right sound to layer(opened and closed hat) u can use AMPLITUDE(AMP) ENVELOPE IN FLSTUDIO(u have here also ins and outs on sample),REASON(awesome NNXT),CUBASE, NUENDO, TRACKTION etc etc...
Find the right sound sounds in some of theese programs or any u might use, and then mark them and do the layering then in Sound Forge, WaveLab, or any similar

It is the art of drm layering... what u can`t understand here folks
2 hats... one open and one closed....
Cut the ATTACK of the opened.... COPY the ATTACK of the closed and PASTE IT ON THE OPENED HAT
#2... to select the RIGHT SOUNDS(HATS) TO LAYER THEY HAVE TO BE SIMILLAR IN FREQS AND PITCH... THEREFORE U CAN PREWIEV THEM IN SOME OTHER SEQUENCER(CUBASE,LOGIC,REASON,FL,TRACTION OR WHATEVER)...
oh well at least iKON understood, i`m glad that I helped him

I`ve just tried to explain it more and in the most simple way
I`m not some kind of evildoer for it right?
