Might sound like a broken record, but Waves plugins have become the standard for mixing and mastering... I wouldn't use anything else Big Grin

Im really liking the SSL channel and the VEQ4
i use them for shaping more than correction as they have nice character to them and you can do some quite radical boosts cuts and it still sounds pretty cool.

For more surgical type eq tasks (i.e high or low passing and for narrow bandwidth cuts) i generally use the eq that comes with pro tools. works well and is pretty transparent as well as cpu efficient

the standard one in FL7 (EQUO), does a great job and its got lots of flexibility.

its just like a graphic equalizer with lots of frequencies that you can edit/cut/boost.

yea it's boh. usually the eq in the program you use can be good, except reason. :/ they make there's light on purpose, so you can stack them.

Yeah, I use the EQUO pretty often, it's like a spectrum analyzer/equalizer that can be set to a specific instrument, I use it a lot when I'm working with my basses.

it's because waves is a studio standard like pro tools. It's a quite pure and heavy cpu usage. If I were to make a .FLP for people to use, i would assume people would have waves, over any other plug-ins.

good for you, quad-core snob!

isnt there a sort of a "freeze" button in frooty which applies the effect and then you dont have to use it anymore, to save cpu usage? but its bad cause it creates huge project files because it contains tracks in audio?

frooty sucks for collab, reason is god there

on topic: waves 5 and ssl

A good way to test eqs is to take 2 identical sounds and reverse the polarity of one so they null to silence, then run the sounds through different eqs and try to match the settings. If they both cancel to nothing then they're basically the same.

There has been some interesting tests done like this lately and a lot of the high end eqs don't sound any different to the much cheaper ones!

Fruity Parametric EQ 2 Dance

Btw does anyone know any EQ plugin that can cut/boost individual frequencies (in example if I have a disturbing sound at 657Hz, I can just cut that particular freq out)?

Because it would take some sort of amazing filters to be able to isolate one single frequency without effecting others around it.

You can however just use an eq with Q control (preferably Linear Phase) and make it as tight as you can and notch that frequency out.

The one in reason, not that I use EQ that much Big Grin Prefer playing with filters instead, but then again I never do anything the conventional way Huh
