I have been spinning vinyl for a while, but I have no idea how to start producing music. I want to produce drum and bass remixes of different songs from mp3 files. I want to cut different parts of a song and put them all together with various effects and beats. Can anyone point me in the right direction of what I need to accomplish this?

Audacity to cut the tracks up

FL or something alike to make the remix..you could maybe try Reaper, it's a free audio and midi sequencer
http://www.cockos.com/reaper/index.php
havent tried it yet tho

and if u're really lazy, or want instant result get bs1 loops

What is FL? Why would you suggest a program that you have never used? How do you know about it?

www.flstudio.com

and the about the other one, you'll have to pay for FL or do illigal stuff to make you able to save your songs. Reaper is free (and cheaper if u want to buy a license for it). Looking at what it's site gives for specs, and the screenshots, it looks pretty sweet for being free.

Thanks. I appreciate the info. Do the software programs also alter the cuts you make (such as fading, distorting, etc.)? Also, I like the other website you gave me with the loops. Do you know of other good websites like that one? Sorry I'm so ignorant. Any other help you can give would be appreciated.

you can find more samples in the samples section on this site Wink

FL studio has a wide range of effects delivered with it, and it supports vst, so u can download other instruments and effects and put em in it.
google for kvr audio, there's a lot of em there

Do you know of any other sites like this one (with samples, forum, etc.) for drum and bass?
