Yes, it’s a tribute mix from me, Uncut Anger, paying homage to the original Four Horsemen and those who carry on their sound. In a time where screaming synths and vessel bursting reeces dominate, it’s good to hear some music focussing on beats.
Originally Dylan, Ink, Loxy and Keaton formed the Four Horsemen. And though they actually did only one track together (a remix of Digital’s Rocksteady) they managed to influence a new breed of horsemen. These new horsemen outnumber the original horsemen by far. Among them are the likes of Gremlinz & Stranjah, Skitty, Phobia to name a few.
It’s hard to describe what defines the horsemen style as the tunes can vary quite a bit. However, once you hear a couple of tracks you can see the way the raw funky breaks and deep dub-like subs play a major part in defining the sound. That’s why some of the artists in the mix may not be branded as horsemen, but are included anyway. I’m talking about people like Mindmachine and B-key back in the days when the original Four Horsemen formed their apocalyptic alliance.
This means this mix also has a certain amount of nostalgia as a great deal of back catalogues of labels like Renegade Hardware, Cylon and Architecture have been included. But there’s also room for the new talents! So put this ugly bastard on, crank up the bass and roll with it!
