I finally got my new PC, but I still haven´t decided what soundcard I´ll buy..
Not planning on using external hardware, so no tons of in and outports needed.
I also need to buy monitors... Any advice welcome too.
Willing to spend some money on it, but as it will be a nice timespending and never a profession I don´t want to spend my last € on it either.
Do I need an amplifier to go with that or can I use the output of the soundcard directly?

I think the better monitors are active ones. so you won't need an amplifier
I got KRK RP8 and i think they sound nice, but you should check them out yourself in the store and listen to them, and see what suits best for you..
for soundcard check m-audio, they got decent stuff!

I've also heard good things about the alesis monitor 1. Im sure someone on here uses them...it maybe be Surya but I cant remember.
im rocking these which are active. I bought them on a budget but to be honest the bass response isn't quite as good as i'd like. Its not awful but i've heard better. i'll probably look to upgrade at some point and keep them as a reference pair.
there's lots of discussion about monitors and amps on the site already so have a little look about. Personally unless you've got a very good amplifier I would go with active monitors but it's personal preference really.

OK, I see 3 different models here:
Alesis M1 active 520 for €259 (pair)
Alesis Monitor One MKII (passive) for €145 (pair)
Alesis M1 MK II active for €333 (pair)
I think the one in the middle can be left out, are the cheaper active ones the ones you mean?

Strange, they work fine on my pc. Anyway, I was talking about the Yamaha HS80M and the Mackie HR824, in that order.

I´d like active ones so I don´t need to buy a separate amplifier. And I wanna stay under €350, preferably under €200 is even better.
Upto now I was composing on a laptop with a headphone and when playing the result over a (car)stereo the frequency spectrum was shifted way too high (all sharp hissy stuff and the bass was just tiny). So whatever money I will spend on a soundcard which above home theater/Gaming stuff and some neutral sounding monitors will improve my productions with huge amounts
I´m in the process of buying a house as well, so I need to hurry before all the money is gone

Yamaha HS80M = €500
sorry, ain´t going to spend that much money.
It seems like there are some monitors that cost as much as some second hand cars though.
Is Behringer such crap that they can sell a pair at €149?

im still not sure of Behringer quality - Ive got a behringer mixing desk and it sounds a bit noisy at high levels.
I know that Eye-D uses the Behringer truth monitors and he writes sick ass choons.
