PAYBACK VIII @ RECTOR GHENT
(stalhof 5 - 9000 ghent - belgium)
(As most of you know already, martyn had to cancel due to a suddenly US tour, a very sad thing and in our search for another headliner that matches him we had te encounter other problems, but that doesn't matter cause we have a more than good replacement DJ PEYO, not only a good producer (solo and with his friend redeyes) but also a quality dj !)
DJ PEYO ( bingo, vandal recs, .progress recs – FR)

Peyo began on the French drum & bass scene in 1998 as a dj, with the collective "Dragon Kru" (Kush, Le Lutin, Brooxs, Sti & Youthman) and he took part in many drum & bass residencies and gigs in Toulouse. As he was noticed by the quality of his mixes (tight & eclectic selection) where he has played at the sides of DILLINJA, MOVING FUSION, SHIMON, KEATON, SUBFOCUS, KONTROL, SKINNY, WILDCHILD, DOM & ROLAND, MARCUS INTALEX, RUFF STUFF, mc STAMINA, mc JAMALSKI, mc VERSE, mc KRAY-Z B, HIGH TONE, INTERLOPE, AMON TOBIN, MIKE LADD, MOBY & more ... . Influenced by the hip hop, the electro and the breakbeat, he decided to start production around 2003 to spread his love and his faith for music. Today his productions are played by LTJ BUKEM, FABIO, GROOVERIDER, ZINC, JENNA G, BAYLEY, FLIGHT and he got forthcoming releases on BINGO, HORIZONS, PROGRESS ... with his tunes get regular support on radio (RADIO1, 1XTRA, LIFE FM, ORIGIN FM ...) He has one radio show since 2000 called "breakbeat experience" all saturdays from 11 pm with REDEYES on www.radio-fmr.net.

JAKUZA (combustion, propaganda, corrosion – NL)

Around the age of 16 I first came in contact with the dj world. I was watching television (TMF in its early years) and saw these videoclips of deejays. A simple dude behind a pair of decks who controlled a massive crowd in front of him. It was magical to me.
Several years later I discovered DrumnBass. By that time I had already been teaching myself the necessary skills to dj, but it still didn't feel right. I'd been spinning a mixture of techno and rave, but it didn't quite feel like they were my genres. That all changed the first time that I heard Decoder's "Concussion" album. My world just exploded. I didn't know anything about DnB, I was completely in awe at the pure energy it had and I simply couldn't imagine how anyone could dance to it. But I had discovered my genre.
That was in several years ago. DrumnBass is still my music of choice and by now I've done things I couldn't have dreamed of back then. Several years later, I can honestly say that I'm a lucky bastard. Why? Because I get to do something in which I can completely lose myself. And I even get paid to do it...
What do I sound like when I'm out deejaying? The short answer: DrumnBass. Pure and simple. I could give you a long answer, but that would mean drowning you in a barrage of terminology only other nutters like me would understand.
Still want the long answer? Ok, here we go: A mixture of technoid, neurofunk and liquid with some techstep and rollers thrown in for good measure. What I look for in a tune is energy. Pure energy. Energy can take a lot of forms for me; either a relentless assault of drums in a drumfunk tune or the more techno fueled style of energy of a technoid tune. Energy can also take the form of a rolling bassline or a certain vibe that a tune has. Even a simple vocal sample can give a tune energy.
In other words; I like it fast and hard.

MILLENIUM KRU (star warz, 187-dnb.com)

Daviz is one of the 2 dj's from Millennium Kru, responsible for compilling the R&S drum&bass compilations "Fyzikal Encountas". In the past he produced 2 d'n'b records together with Outlander on the R&S label. In Ghent he works at the local Music Mania store. 187 is the other half of the dj duo. 187 created Fried Chicken Records Kortrijk & Ghent and is active with organising & promoting drum&bass events such as ' We Enter The Future ', 'Star Warz',and more. He's also recently involved in the 'Goodluck -organisation'.Goodluck is running 'Eskimo Recordings', doing management of certain artists, promoting 'Diesel-U-Music Belgium' and more. Daviz & One87 were already active for a long time in the music scene before they teamed up. Living drum'n'bass was and is the most normal thing for them In the beginning of 1999, after the first Millennium Breakz party, the Millennium Kru got formed.
The Millennium Kru is a first class drum'n'bass soundsystem that plays high quality drum'n'bass of all styles ( From Bukem to Dillinja ). Their one & only purpose is to rock the crowd, no more, no less. Shortly after it was formed, The Millennium Kru represented on almost every (major / minor ) d'n'b event in Belgium like Pukkelpop, 10 Days Off, Dour,
Millennium Breaks,Groove City, Beach Rock, City Parade, House Torhout, all "It's Like a Jungle" & Metalheadznights ( resident ), all Eskimo parties ( resident ) , all Kozzmozz parties ( resident ), Star Warz ( resident ) and much much more. They frequently play in Holland and other countries as well.
List of UK selectors and Mc's they played with ( with lots of them they played several times )
Goldie, Dillinja, Ed Rush & Mc Ryme Tyme, Optical, Fierce, Grooverider, Andy C & Mc GQ, Danny Breaks, Krust & Mc Dynamite, Roni Size, Die, Suv, Doc Scott & Mc Justice, Kemistry & Storm, Adam F & Mc ELL, J Majik, Usual Suspects, Future Cut, Loxy, Bailey, Digital, Reality, Konflict, Bad Company, Aphrodite, 4 hero, Alex Reece, Ash-a-Tack, Bill Riley, breakbeat Era, Bryan Gee, Decoder, Lemon D, Technical Itch, Dom & Roland + Mc Verse, Jonny L, Source Direct, Kane , Matrix, LTJ Bukem, Peshay, Fabio, Cause For Concern, Marcus Intalex & Mc Rage, Calibre, Silver, Concord Dawn, High Contrast, Influx UK, Photek, Moving Fusion, London Electricity,Simon Bassline Smith,A Sides & Mc Fats, Beta2, Artificial Intelligence & Mc Manikular,DJ Lee,Spirit,… and more.
MADLOCK (smokehdz – BE)

Madlock got infected by the dnb virus by hearing goldie's inner city life,in the year 2000 that was, before that,he was into other electronic-influenced music, but also hiphop, when he heard 'inner city life',it struck him like lightening.
As Madlock went to his first dnb party, he realised the atmosphere was so different from other parties, the people were more friendly and openminded, there was a crowd interaction, & everybody was brocking out to every tune.
So after years of partying, He decided to start dj-ing. He bought his first decks in 2003,which were soon replaced by his one & only true loves 'The sl 1200' More and more hebecame hooked on the deep & melodic influenced dnb ,producers like d bridge,Marcus intalex, calibre, tactile, are heavily represented in his recordbag. He played at lots of school & other small parties,on the worst systems, but it was always good fun.
SICKO & KENSHEE (payback - BE)

Sicko got in touch with the sound of Drum 'n' Bass about 6 years ago when he heard Goldie play in a packed Vooruit! He soon started collecting various drum'n'bass tracks and realised that he preferred the liquid or called it funky / mellow side of Drum 'n' Bass. Funky sweet labels like Renegade Recordings , Defunked , Hospital , Soul:r definitely cought his attention ! Later on he developped his style and skills and worked more towards his one and only motive " trying to deliver what the crowd wants "! Which eventually came down to the fact that he's not sticking to one subgenre within Drum 'n' Bass. Just blending his favourite tunes old & new together. Further down the line he's also a member of the Payback crew , together with his crewmate Kenshee they try to keep their Payback concept rolling by inviting national & international artists with different flavours ! After 7 editions they are proud to have had the following artists behind the decks ; Commix, Wildchild, Martyn , Lenzman & Dan Stezo , Ace & S-Capade, Rudy Rocket ....
Kenshee
With a growing passion for music since he was little, kenshee travelled from rock to reggae, from hiphop to house to end up in the world of drum&bass. After buying his first decks & mixer at the age of 18 he started to rinse the heavy dnb sound and you could find him at d&b parties every weekend, this is were he ran into sicko and after some talks and beers, they created the concept called payback. More & more liquid ended up in the bag and it was love at first hearing you can say, so his bag is filled with labels such as hospital, soul:r, signature, defunked, renegade recordings etc. but somewhere deep in the bag there's still place for his older renegade hardware, virus etc stuff, so expect the unexpected from this guy! Nowadays together with sicko(payback crew) he's still travelling through the beautifull world of drum&bass with a future that shows his passion will never die.
Vocal support in a versus way will be delivered that night by MC ELEVEN (payback resident) -- MC MUSH (mentallab) -- MC RX (smokehdz)

Despite all the comments on other fora , i'm gonna make an effort to post some details about the party here to.
I'm the first to admit the sound wasn't what it supposed to be but in the end we tried to solve as many problems as we could (which is not easy when the owner of the Rector is not around and doesn't want to put in any effort what so ever).
Musically i can say the following :
*Madlock ; great set was pleasently surprised mate! (Even Peyo said your set was great)
*Kenshee ; mixing with no monitor is a bitch and when mr soundman is trying to fix the problem and interrupting you well, then it's no fun of course. Heard some nice tunes though
*Jakuza ; most of you didn't enjoy his set but we tried to keep it variated and technically he did a great job considering he played half of his set without a monitor and his headphone broke down several times! Good job all together.
*PEYO ; headliner and man of the night imo ! The tunes he played will soon see the daylight on Bingo, seems mr Zinc loves his sound. And watch out for Ney Faustini (his tunes are amazing!)
*Millenium Kru; what can i say , BOH! Took over in style and delivered as always !
*Sicko ; well hard to give comments on yourself, had a good time behind the decks and the partynutters kept on dancing so i'm satisfied
Well that rounds it about up for this edition , no worries lads next time different place and another quality line up
Cheers for the lads who believe in us and keep on turning up on our parties, you know who you are ! BIG UP YOURSELVES, it's headz like you that keeps us going :!:
PAYBACK WILL BACK :!:
