i use FL6 and sometimes when im workin on a tune the audio willl become very distorted and i hear alot of static. anyone know why this is? i have the buffer length (in audio properties) set high. is it that? or my soundcard? I have 'SigmaTel Audio' <----is that decent? maybe its a memory problem? I use a Dell E510 (512 mB or w/e of ram) I know its not a great PC for music production.... but anyway, this problem is annoying,,, could use some help/.. thx

id say its your soundcard.
try setting your buffer length lower, that can help.
and also, are you using an ASIO driver? if not you need to get one. theres a free one called ASIO4ALL or something like that.

Dude I am having the same thing happen in a Acid Project that I have going on, and I went an bought a X-Fi Xtreme music soundcard and it still does it. So, look at your CPU usage when the project is open and let it crash, and see what your usage goes up to, if it is above 64% like mine is, you need to get a better motherboard or processor, because you must have mad VST glitch on there or something that is overloading your motherboard, and your soundcard & processor, cant handle the load. Dont waste the money like I did, I had an Ensoniq PCI128 and it does the same shit, except for it sounds slightly crisper with the new sound card. Hope that helps some

If you have a lot of plugins or effects running and your cpu goes high in use, that could be the reason. You can enable "smart disable for all". This function dynamically turns on and of the plugins so they don't put any unnecessary strain on your cpu. You could record the sound from your plugins to .wav files and import them as samples, that uses less power too. Also as you said yourself, check the latency settings, and use asio drivers if you can.

Turn up your latency. Should work.

Try using smart disable for all the effects you use, this seemed to sort the problem out for me but a sound card and a shit load of RAM will help you more and should allow you to run loadz of effects without that problem. You could also try setting up sends rather than having a reverb effect on various channels, this helps a bit.
