Take a snaresound you like. EQ it, compress it...
Than add another one to make it sound fuller. EQ it, compress it...
Than add another one to give it a nice hi-end. EQ it, compress it...
Repeat until you got your perfect snare

Wops, never mind my comment, I didn't see the 'ghost' in the title
I prefer using shorter punchy snares that I used for layering in the main snare. I just leave out some of the other layers.

I take the original snare, distort it, shorten it, compress it, maybe add a reverb (only a pinch) and pitch up/down. That usualy gives me the perfect g-host

yeah, take the punch out by changing the attacklevel, lower the volume, change the cut off setting to make it less energetic.
None of these adjustments are huge though.
Besides geting the sound of the ghost right I think the positioning of the ghost hits is also of major importance.

Taking the punch out? I like ghosts with a lot of punch!

Depends on the track IMO, but I never want a ghost snare to kick in as hard as the main snare, so I remove the first bid by changing the attack curve.
It's just a trick that helped me to get my ghosts sound like ghosts and not like just some other snares that happen to be in between.
I don't think there's a golden rule on how to create ghost snares, just some directions.

Thanks...I was just looking at some different techniques...
its always cool to see what others are doin...
I usually tweak the cutoff, velocity and pitch and layer with a shaker just to get that extra shuffle.

Hmmm, never tried layering the shaker, might try it now. Thanx.

I always take a snare with less punch than the main one,but with lots of presence, compress the shit out of it,tiny amount of reverb,eq it and it works
And of course you can't forget about the volume, I tend to turn it down to about a half of the level of the main snare.

the positioning is vital yeah, but if u play around with the positions of the ghosts u can get some interestin variations goin on
