How do I upgrade my ram? is it an external unit that I buy?
specs: P4 proccessor 2.4GHZ, 256 MB DDR RAM, 30 GB Hard disk
wanna run Cubase and reason .... any other things I should consider, or will this run smoothly with an upgrade to say 2GB RAM>?

er, didn't we have this same conversation recently?
you insert into your motherboard which is inside the computer case. ask for help at the store and you're better off carrying the case over there.
2 Gigs will be enough for smooth work

will 2gb be enough for smooth work with lots and lots of plug ins though... the new macbooks got 2 gigs, and a lot of musicians are going for those, so that spec cant be bad?

Make sure you know what type of RAM you computer has, because there are a lot of different types these days, and with the wrong type it just won't work.

dual channel technology is in fact pretty old. since nforce 2 chipsets, it's really no big deal
I'm running two modules of 512 ddr GEIL at 400mhz in dual channel mode

On top of that, your motherboard has to support it, and it has nothing to do with the type of RAM you put into it... I doubt that his P4 will, NForce2 is only available for AMD cpu's...
He'll just need a few DDR DIMM's to plug onto his PC's motherboard. Check how many DIMM slots are available - long things (usually black) with prints with chips on them stuck into them.
