My dad brought an old laptop which wasnt used anymore at his company.
It's a Toshiba Satellite 2060CDS, with a AMD K6-2 cpu @ 366mhz
it's not much improvement to my p1 200mhz machine i use now, but it is 166mhz extra plus i can put the laptop on my room and use the soundsystem i've got on there and sample more easy from vinyl..
now, I was wondering what is the most easy way to bring over 4 gb of samples and stuff over from one pc to another, without using cd-r's cus my p1 machine hasnt got a cd-r-drive.
Can I just connect em with a usb-cable?
or should i have a lot of patience and connect both of em trough the modems (which is a 28k one in the p1)?

Don't use the modem!
Fastest way:
If both pc's have a network adaptor, you can connect them directly using a crosslink cable (or regular network cable with crosslink "tussenstekker"). You have to set up a little home network thingie, but it is the fastest way to transfer file from one pc to another
Bit slower way:
Another way is to use some external data storage like a mp3 player or mobile harddisk. I suppose those pc's still use usb1, so it will also take a while, but it works quiet well.
oldskool very slow way:
Both computers will probably have a serial port. You can buy or make a nulmodem cable. That way you can send files from one comp to another without need for modems or phonelines, it's very slow, but will still be faster than with that old modem.
btw: it will probably be a very noticeable speed difference, it is only 166MHz more, but that is almost tice as fast in this case!

The laptop has been in a network, so he should have a network adapter, right?
but i'm not sure if the p1 has it...
how many mb/sec does the serial thingie go?
and it really doesnt work just connecting em with a double ended usb cable?
yeh, i'm kinda looking forward to get using it, pitty the laptop has only got 32mb ram, which is the only thing the p1 has got more of (64), but it's upgradable to 160mb, so i might consider getting some more

second Jimmy on this one, the portable drives are cheap nowadays and you're going to need one at some time anyway

)
btw, it seems the laptop already had an update sometime, the hd is bigger than the standard specs (20GB
that is like three times what i've got now lol), and it has 96mb ram, not 36...

Dude, that's why you make core tunes - distortion FX takes the least amount of cpu

Yes that usb thing you posted should be able to do it. A regular USB cable won't work.
A serial nullmodem cable goes at a maximum speed of 115 Kbps, a USB1.1 goes at 12Mbps, USB2.0 480Mbps, ethernet is available in 10Mbps, most common in 100Mbps, and on newer systems also in 1Gbps. So a serial nullmodem is reaaaaalllyyyyyy slooooow.

usually the only folders windows needs are: [Windows]
and [Program Files] and the others which you can't see unless you enable the option to view the hidden system folders. if it's by any chance enabled, they appear as faded, with half transparency. don't delete those!
now you want to uninstall those programs, you got that computer off your father right? then ask him what are those and uninstall through the control panel
you can delete everzthing else manually

well actually it's wiser to format/reinstall, especially since you say the startup takes long right?

What OS is on the machine now? I would go for nothign more than Windows 98 on such a machine I guess.
Are you sure about the amount of RAM you mentioned? 96 MB of ram is amount of ram notepad uses on Windows... Wouldn´t it be 128MB or 256MB or so?
I hope you didn´t pay to much for that laptop because it´s not really hot stuff anymore. My HP laptop running 1,3Ghz is available second hand for 190€ on ebay (I mean similar machines, not selling mine).
To bad I just threw away my Aldi PC (667Mhz), you could have gotten it for free.

Crossover Cable. Plug it into both Etherenet ports of the PC's.
Load up the stuff in windows.(i.e. Accessories - System Tools - File Transfer.) Run the wizard.)
If you do it right, it should start....
