Blue screens rarely affect data saved safely in files, so in most cases that shouldn't be a problem...

i might b a bit late on this. but for future reference i think if u hit f5 when its booting its should run some kinda diagnostic, which will slow it down when it hits the blue screen and it should tell ya whats up. it might not b f5 i just cant remember. i had the same issue a while ago and it was a boot error. the only way round it was to take the hard drive out, stick it in another pc with windows on another hard drive, then when the other hard drive boots first it will run dsk chk and fix the error. but its a laptop....so....er..... u can always go to a shop and still get the files retrieved, but your looking at serious money. lol. sorry 4 being no help at all
