the scream 4's "master compressor" preset seems to compress the kicks and get them sounding better than any compression i can do on the m-class compressor. is the m-class just a crappy compressor or is the distortion some sort of cause of this? if the scream sounds better i should use it, i can see people saying, but then theres no controls for its attack and release. When I use the m-class i use a low attack and medium release....it really worries me when i read people saying that reason doesnt sound as good as other programs, cos i feel like i should do more of my tunes in cubase... give me some re-assurance!

don't listen what people say. if Reason is good for Limewax it's good enough
tips:
-don't use Reason sounds
-since you have it, Rewire Reason into Cubase and use compressors like Waves C4
-if you really have to use Reason's M Class go easy on it as it really screws up the sound on drastic settings (then again every compressor does that)
-you can make your own ADSR envelopes for any unit by routing the CV cables from say, NN19 into it. you can use it also as an LFO device etc. lots of possibilities

I hadn't even noticed you had presets for the Scream 4
If it sounds better, use it.
But I tend to use it for what it is: distortion.

well, in my opinion and I take many others will agree, most of the sounds from the two refills that come with Reason are cack, especially the dnb ones. it's maybe personal tastes.. the beats are all laughable, not a single amen loop on whole 2 cd. the fact is theyre only 44100Hz 16bit and already processed which makes effecting them a nightmare.
the NNXT soundbanks are maybe the only thing worth checking out, but once you get your hands on some more serious samples you'll forget them too

Yeah, but you'll need a crack then. Just leave them be and just act like they don't exists.

Is processing the reason sounds really more of a hassle or more difficult than processing higher quality sounds then? I seem to get decent results sometimes with enough playing round, but I can definetely see what your saying about most of em being shite.
Places to get GOOD samples anyone???
Cheers

when this site's samples go online again it should be a good place to start.
also keep lurking various dnb forums for sample packs that come and go, and annoouncements of track remix competitions, especially ones of the established producers, theyre often packed with quality samples
