You have spammers already on the new site too.

To avoid this

1. you should require people to register before being able to post, now you get spambots that can post at will
2. to avoid spambots registering you should put a Turing test on your registration page, it's an image that shows some random letters which you have to type in.

It's important to understand that it are not people who post spam in forums, it are automated scripts. It's not possible to stop people from registering and posting, but it is really easy to stop spambots.

Which reminds me: how do you activate this on WBB? I have seen WBBs where it's used but I can't seem to find how to add it to mine Frown

Nice design, and as you say yourself, little empty. Smile

I can't find the option either, I think it is enabled by default.

I found the following info on the WBB boards:
quote:
The CAPTCHA Image verify was introduced in the wBB2.3.3 Version for Registrations, I would also recommend Upgrading to the latest 2.3.4 and your "Bots" should be dramatically reduced.

I just searched in google and apparently this feature was added in PhpBB version 2.0.19, so just upgrade to the latest version and you should be fine.

Another thing you should enable in the email verification, so new users receive an email after registering that contains a link they should click to activate their account, that is another safety measure to avoid spammers.

Don't waste your time on that, as said before the spam is usually made by bots, if you use a good registration system they are stopped anyway, so there is no need to block the IP addresses.

When using phpBB: always install the newest version as soon as it's released!
