Hi fellows,
like every year, the Dutch forum dnbforum.nl organizes a producer competition.
The whole reglement is here but since it's in Dutch, i will highlight the main points below:
- the principle is to use only one samplepack (download it here) and make out of it a track of 5 to 9 minutes. You can rework the samples anyhow, just be creative. Of course, any kind of drumnbass is allowed 
- the goal is to show your skills and your creativity. There is nothing material to win, just a symbolic prize: the dnbforum.nl Award thus the recognition and admiration of all other competitors 
- when done, register on the forum and send a link to your track to the forum user vetnellis who is in charge of the organization of the competition.
- deadline is 31 July at 23:59.
- all tracks will be submitted to an anonymous vote on the forum (one vote per user). The winner will be known on 20 August.

anybody got a hold of the sample pack? is it any good? can't download ATM from work..

indeed, the idea is to show skills and creativity, that's why all competitors have to use the same samplepack. this way we vote for skills and creativity, beyond all differences of taste and/or choice of samples 
the samplepack contains enough to make a good track. but of course samples have to be reworked, that's part of the game

The biggest problem is: there's quite some percussion samples, but only 1 (!) bassline and some effects. No synths of anything. THAT is limiting. And not a single amen!

I guess we can chop up the bassline to get something different but having no synth samples is not limiting, it's degrading

Imho if you know enough about processing and you are creative, you can make d&b tune with one sinewave sample.

Offcourse, but the moderators already told us that it's not the intention that you cut up the samples to waveforms to use for synthesis...
Anyway, can't get the drums to sound realy phat, and I've used almost every snare sample in the pack!

Well in that case the samplepack was surely created by someone who never made a good tune 
if they want to hear originality composition wise they should at least give some samples that you can actually create melody or arrangment with, there are few phrases there that imo will just make tunes sound similar..

I think the drums are extremly weak, it 'll take skill to get those rolling.
The vocals are original to say the least and it will take a lot of work to make something good out of it, but it's possible. The vocals are cut nicely though because there are some nice Oneshot effects in there too).
The synths (there are 2) are useless.
None of the samples in the pack conviced me that I would even want to try to make a tune with them though. Too bad.
Maybe some of the best producers on DnB.be should coop to make a good tune and thus advertise this site???

Dunno if I qualify for one of the best, but I'm working on something. Status
- Phat bassline
- Quite nice use of the vocals, if not a bit unoriginal
- Less than stellar drums
- A bit repetetive due to the small amount of elements used
But as voting has to be anonymous, I can't let you hear anything...

unfortunately that doesn't apply here IMO
15MB sample pack and only one bass. what gives?
in a competition requiring use of only one sample pack, the pack should have:
- 2-3 bass samples or just a C3, and/or C4, C5 good quality, dry synthesized note
- sub bass tone
- some oneshot drum kits
- one or more classic breaks or not so classic
- some strings
- a vocal sample
- one or a few fx samples
