OK I found something but I'm not sure if it's the probbie I was looking for
there's a .log & a .dat file that's been edited the moment the game stopped working;
some 'dr watson' thing; drwtsn32.log (but I think it's a report to send to microsoft, you know what I mean right)
and some cookie: index.dat
I'm gonna try and delete it, when it doesn't work, I can always restore it thru recycle bin.
wish me luck

cookies aren't files you can delete, but references to sites inside your browser.

Maybe if you Ctrl+alt+Delete and go to the processes menu, and see if its in there somewhere. If it is, just select and click end process. If you do need it then your computer will crsh, but it'll be fine when you re-boot it.

It might be worth going through all of the processes anyway since there could be a load of stuff going on which you really dont need. Just make a list of everything you tried shutting down and whether it caused your computer to crash. Basically if you have to scroll down the list when there are no aplications running, there definately too much in there. Oh the wonders on the internet.

Dr. Watson is the debuggin windows program, when some program crashes it jumps up to debug it and writes that to a log file.

Prehaps your best bet would be to start with the ones that arent system processes. The system ones are all things that your OS opens when it starts up, normally stuff you need running. The others, especially the ones labeled Matthias are supposed to be ones that youve started yourself, at least I think thats how it works.
Try ending all of the ones labeled matthias first, and write down if any of these crash the system. Then gradually go down the list of the others. Most of the time, if the process is something that windows really needs, you'll get a notice informing you that the process can't be ended. Write these down as well. Some will not however, and the system will crash when you try to end them, this is cool though as after a restart it'll be fine again. Eventually you'll have a list of everything which is necesary for your system to run. And a list of everything which isnt needed and can be closed.

Obviously stuff like explorer.exe is needed, but there is one called Softping which seems to use a lot of memory, and there are a couple others there too. Also look for multiple instances of the same thing. There are 2 instances of ati2evxx.exe which I'd guess is your graphics card drivers, maybe this'll have something to do with your problem

I went to the compstore today. I was planning to install the game on my gf's laptop. The only thing is: I needed a LAN cable. I don't have this. I went to his shop around 2 o'clock (after I got really pissed @ my comp and started to throw with things but that's quite a long story). I walked about 4 km's and I entered the shop. I had about 5 € in my pocket. He said it costs 29,99 (4800 mbps transfer blah blablah). But he did advise me to download hitman pro and scan my comp. The only thing is.. It took more than 6 hours to complete the MOTHERFUCKING FUCKED UP FUCKER of a scan and IT DIDN'T CHANGE ANYTHING!!!

edit: here's what I posted @ a friends pro. (the same story, only better)

It all started.. today.
my comp crashed because I was playing X-men, which is like, a rather big program. Normally my comp could handle it but it doesn't. Same probbie with need for speed most wanted and stuff. So I started to get quite pissed off. I went to the girl next door to ask if they had a DVD-RW (so I could like put the file on my gf's laptop) but they didn't, so I bought a DVD-R from 'm. Okies, coolios. I started to write.
WHAM. Error. Burn process failed. After 2 sec.
This means that there's 0.000001 kb on the disc, which means that it's trash. FUUUCKKKK I started to hit the door with my bare hands 'till they were bleeding. I was sooooo frickin' PISSED OFFFFF you know. Okies, so I went back again to ask if they might have a LAN-cable (this is something to create networks amongst comps). "nope sorry". Gawddayumnit. Off we go. All the way downtown. A 2 mile walk. When I arrived at the comp store, they said a cable like that costs 29.99 €. Okies, so there I was. I had 5 € in my pocket. GAWDDAYUMNIT!!! He advised me to download hitman pro. Some anty-spyware shit. I advised him to go fuck himself. I walked 2 miles and there I was. Back home. Still pissed, nothing solved. So I started to download Hitman pro. IT TOOK ME A WHOLE FRICKIn' HOUR TO DOWNLOAD THE MOTHERFUCKER!
And it started to scan at 3 pm. It stopped scanning at 9.
It's almost 10 now here, and you know what, I tried to play X-men, AND IT CRASHED. THE MOTHERFUCKING FUCKED UP FUCKER CrASHED!! WHAT THE CRAP IS THIS SUPPOSED TO MEAN??!! like, a message from god?! "MAaaaaatt.. Buyy yourself a new computeeeerrrrr.. You'lll seeeee.. It'll be worth iiiitt"?!

Wait a day or two and I will tell you what processes are safe to be turned off, and how to disable them from their auto turn on when windows starts.

Alrite, here we go:
softping.exe - Browser Helper Object, maybe a script, maybe malicious, but I think not.

icon.exe -
quote:
icon - icon.exe - Process Information

Process File: icon or icon.exe
Process Name: RapidBlaster parasite
Run a Free System Scan for icon.exe Related Errors

Description:
icon.exe is a process associated with the RapidBlaster parasite. This program is a registered security risk and should be removed immediately. If found on your system make sure that you have downloaded the latest update for your antivirus application.

Recommendation for icon.exe:
DISABLE AND REMOVE IMMEDIATELY. This process is most likely a virus or trojan.

fdm.exe - Free Download Manager, leave it.

blue clock.exe - a piece from blue calendar, leave it.

ctfmon.exe - I have it too, I think everyone with Office has it, but also
quote:
Note: ctfmon.execould also be a process which is registered as a trojan. This Trojan allows attackers to access your computer from remote locations, stealing passwords, Internet banking and personal data. It could also be a registered security risk and should be removed immediately.

but I suspect it's not harmful.

CnxdslTb.exe - Drivers for your ADSL modem.

rundll32.exe - A process which enables Windows to run Dynamic Library files (.dll) but also enables Windows to run viruses and trojans within .dll files, so I would watch it if rundll32.exe is always on. Try quiting it, and then quit some other processes you suspect (like icon.exe) - if it pops up again, then my boy, you got a problem.

msgplus.exe -
quote:
msgplus.exe is distributed as a third party MSN extension. However is also spyware if installed with the sponsor program it offers to install. If this optional sponsor program was installed, this process monitors your browsing habits and distributes the data back to the author's servers for analysis. This also prompts advertising popups.

so get rid of it.

realsched.exe - Real Player scheduler, annoying to death - you should get rid of it.

explorer.exe - The normal Windows process, which enables you to see icons, taskbar, menus etc. Leave it.

ati2evxx.exe - It is a process installed alongside ATI Display Adapters and provides additional configuration options for these devices. If you don't need it, turn it off (within ATI config menus or something).

msgsys.exe - It is an application by Intel which assist with LANdesks Alert management System (AMS). Dunno what that is, but is not harmful and I guess it is essential, so leave it.

xfr.exe - is also an application associated with LANdesks Alert management System, so leave it.

wdfmgr.exe - it is part of Microsoft Windows media player 10 and above. This process decreases compatibility problems whilst the product is in use.
Something like the realsched.exe, but you can't turn it off (except by mixing with registry and/or windows media player 10's settings).

svchost.exe - Windows Service Host - all services (lan, internet, disk writing, watching porno, renaming files, and all that shit) are commanded by svchost.exe (and yes, there can be multiple svchost.exe, depending on how many services you have on.) If you want to manage your services, go Start -> Run -> services.msc. There you can start/stop services, and determine if they should start automatically on windows start or not. Don't touch unless you know what you are doing!!
Also, check this http://www.theeldergeek.com/services_guide.htm

rtvscan.exe - is an executable of the Symantec Internet Security Suite. Nothing more to say.

mdm.exe - is associated with Microsoft Windows process debugging system, but can be a virus (but I doubt it). After you kill all other suspected, come back to this one. If it makes troubles, it is a virus.

pds.exe - It is associated with Intel LANDesk Management Suite software and discovers registered products on your computer. That means, it is a spyware. If you have pirate software, you have been reported. Kill this process, as I mind someone checking on me, and interrupting my privacy.

clmlservice.exe - CLMLService.exe is Cyberlink MediaLibrary NT Service. Might be a trojan, but not likely. Kill it anyway.

defwatch.exe - it is a part of Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition. Leave it.

clmlserver.exe - the same thing as CLMLservice.exe. Kill the bastard.

CLCapSvc.exe - is a process which belongs to the CyberLink PowerCinema. Dunno why you need it, but I would kill it. I don't want processes without any purpose running in the background.

BTNtService.exe - some bluetooth service, leave it if you need it.

scardsvr.exe - is an application belonging to the Microsoft Windows Operating System, which provides the authentication facilities for smart security cards on your local system. You can turn this service off within services.msc applet (seek for smart security cards) but don't do it if you need it.

spoolsv.exe - is a Microsoft Windows system executable which handles the printing process to your local printers. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated. But it can also be a virus, though I doubt that. Do the same as for mdm.exe

alg.exe - is a part of the Microsoft Windows operating system. It is a core process for Microsoft Windows Internet Connection sharing and Internet connection firewall. This program is important so leave it.

lsass.exe - is a system process of the Microsoft Windows security mechanisms. It specifically deals with local security and login policies. Leave it (you can't turn it off anyways).

services.exe - something similar to the svchost.exe, leave it.
But also, services.exe could also be a process which is registered as a trojan though, again, I doubt it. Do as with mdm.exe.

winlogon.exe - essential win process, leave it.

csrss.exe - essential win process.

clsched.exe - Part of CyberPower Systems software.

smss.exe - essential win process.

System - essential windows process.

System idle process (Niet-actieve systeemprocessen) - it shows how much you DON'T use from your CPU. You can't turn it off.

Next post - how to deal with all of them.

I guess it has nothing to do with processes or spyware.. could be the drivers but I have no idea what hardware I have in my compie
+it's complicated to find out with that software
so I guess I'll have to read the manual for the comp, go to the driver websites and download 'm. If it still doesn't work, I guess I'll have to buy a new computer.
