Grrr it pisses me off:
EVERY single time I'm playing a game on my comp, it shuts itself down after.. about 5 minutes. THIS IS QUITE A PROBLEM FOR PLAYING GAMES!
I wanna know why it does that. It started when I downloaded GTA 2
sometimes it just completely stops. I get a "foutmelding" (dunno how to say it in english) and everything just stops.
If I had another comp I'd try it on that one but the thing is
I DON'T HAVE ANOTHER ONE!
So here's what happens.
It's not overheating or something, at least I don't think it does
I start up a game (like GTA vice city)
sometimes it shuts itself down from the moment I start playing
sometimes I can play on it for like half an hour
and then it just stops, & I got to reboot.
How in da hec am I supposed to play on this piece of shit?
Is there a way to solve it?
I'd appreciate it

could be a memory problem. Just go to your computer store, have'm check it out, let them inform you what the cost will be BEFORE they fix anything, and then you can still decide if you want to buy a new comp or not.

The exact same problem you have has also shown up at one of my PC's, in this case it was a brand new machine with a faulty memory unit. 90% of the stuff goes well, only apps that eat a lot of memory make the machine freeze.
This could also be caused by the motherboard (that large green piece of plate with all the copper lining and other funny shit on it) or the CPU (Processor).
Does your machine freeze? Does it show a blue screen with a lot of numbers or does it show a more decent error message inside windows?
What does the error message say?

As far as I can see it, you have problem with either the graphics card or the sound card (less likely).
Download graphics drivers from the net (but since the comp shuts down in 5 minutes, you'll have to do it on turns
)
Check for spyware and similar shit. Here http://www.safer-networking.org/

i think what he means is that youll have to try out the different drivers, and everytime you try it your computer could shut down
|
You mean like.. experiment.
And when something explodes,
THEN go to the compshop

I'd guess thats its one of 2 things.
Either it's a driver problem, probably your graphics card, or youve manged to download something dodgy onto your PC, if the game you initially had trouble with is an illegit copy I wouldnt be very suprised, but the first is far more likely.
I'd suggest trying to find a bit of info about your graphics card's spec and see if there are any driver updates available on the interweb. It could even be that you got a windows update which has conflicting drivers with the ones already installed for your graphics card, again, your best bet would be to download the most recent available drivers for all your hardware.
If you're still confused, a driver is a small piece of software which as far as I can gather is loaded into your OS and allows the component to do its job, comunicate with the rest of the system properly, and other necsasary tasks. The reason for getting driver updates is that sometimes a flaw in a piece of hardware doesnt show up in initial testing, and only becomes apparent after a commercial release. The manufacturers will then release an updated driver which will replace the driver already available with a newer version without the bug. Alternitively the newer driver might be a necesary ugrade in order for the hardware to operate with newer, more demanding software.
I'm still at a loss as to why it'll sometimes last 5 mins and sometimes an hour or so. Perhaps it's even a problem with the motherboard, if the fans arent working properly, or everything is covered with dust/ash and other dirt, components become extreamly hot and can fail. Most of the time computers have some form of fail-safe which will turn of automatically if everything gets too hot, but if everything keeps overheating it can cause a lot of damage, have a look at the inside of your pooter and see if there is a lot of dust and crap blocking the fans and vents, also check if there is dust sitting on important componets like the CPU or graphics card. If there is, buy yourself a can of dry dust, its basicaly a can of compressed air which you can use to blast clean the inside of your pooter, just make sure that you prevent the fans from spinning while you do this, otherwise you can damage the bearings and motors. Also make sure you hold the can upright, if you hold upside down or on its side, you'll get a blast of extreamly cold propelant which will definately fuck up anything it touches, I once got a massive cold burn on my hand from the stuff, fucking hurt it did too.
Dont worry though, uploading a driver will definately not blow up your computer, just make sure that you download drivers that are specific to your exact graphics card.
Does this only happen when playing games or all the time?
If its just when playing games, there is a really simple solution, STOP PLAYING GAMES!!!!! waste of time IMO.
If it happens all the time, regardless of what your doing, prehaps I'd be worth backing up all the essentials onto an external hard-disk and re-formating your HD. This is loooonnggg but could be worth it, its always nice to have a fresh start too.
Even so, I can imagine this being a hard disk problem and I'd be suprised if de-fragging the HD makes any difference. But I suppose it could be worth a try, providing your system doesnt crash mid defrag.
Anyway, I hope it gets sorted soon, computers suck balls when they dont work properly.
