Hey all I have made a DNB track or 2! and like lots of others out there would like to know what you really think.

So if you are into drum and bass please listen to Sweetdreams & Shades of the 90's:

(also other genres including house, techno, trance)...

yo.

ive been a dj for some time now. self taught producer (on low-tek equipement) since 2001. my web hosting is down atm, so i cant really show you any of my work...

1st listen:

pretty clean samples on the intro. the first drum beat is way in the background, but that almost sounds intentional. after that, you have some good layering going on, however the EQ is rather flat. i can feel a little sub action in the background. the amen doesnt really move around. the beat you have layered on it doesnt move around and the verse-chorus-verse format gets very predictable. also, at many points, the track is overloaded with ambiance/strings/fx.
wow, 7 minute mark and counting. its the megamix Smile

i dont know man. i usually listen to a track twice - once to get a feel and the second to provide serious feedback - but im just not feeling this one at all. i want to be positive tho, since i am a nice guy and i love dnb:

the overall sounds are good, like the string section, the ambient fx and many of the little blips you toss in here and there. you obviously have a feel for music theory and are trying to tell a story. i enjoyed the intro. the sounds had me thinking this was going to be more along the lines of IDB.

if i could make any recommendation, it would be to condense this into a shorter track. that way the predictability factor will be minimized. also, try playing around with the drum beats some more, and you definitely want to make the bass more of a factor.

but im just one guy, and you cant please everyone, so please do not go thinking this track is bad - that is far from the truth. it was just not what i was looking for based on the intro and the build up.

keep making the beats, and i hope some of this will help you down the road.

peace
