We don't think we are sorry - we're stuggling for better.
And please don't mix up communism - that was not communism. That was weird socialism, a bad one.

Man you have no idea what kind of laugh we had after seeing that film, the funniest and saddest thing was how they showed bratislava as a ghetto but then they went into the club which was better than anything you can see here lol
Anyway that movie was actually quite funny and good to see.

the only thing that bothered me is that everyone was talking with a russian accent there. That's rather weird cuz they speak dutch in Amsterdam...

hostel, wolf creek, saw, these are not horror movies. they are thrillers. very sadistic and disgusting thrillers. there hasnt been a good horror movie since the early 80's. The shinning is good, the exercist, and polterguest are some good horror films.
new horror film's suck balls if u ask me.
cheers! |
so true. you know when I was a kid I loved horror movies and used to think how could will they be like when the technology improves
it happened that the genre died, which is sad.

Sorry to drag up an old thread, just watched this with some mates figured Ive give my 2 cents aswell.
I was so disapointed by this, what a pile of shite.
The whole way through this film it seemed as though there was a whole subtext aimed at further alienating european citizens from americans. It was like "look america, you dont want to leave the states, look how fucked up foreigners are!" What a fucking joke!
This was also furthered by the obvious "bad guy", the gay bloke at the begining. Its seemed like another attempt at making europeans look diferent and therefor should be feared by american nationals. "Look, not only is he a murderer, but he's gay too, OMG how fucked up are europeans!!!"
The plot of the film couldve been interesting, but why did it have to be bassed in an european country. I think it wouldve carried more weight if it was based in a different US state ala deliverence.
I also think the subject was a little deprived aswell. The fact that at the time this film was made, america was recieving a lot of grief because of the torturing they where suspected of comiting in guantanamo bay, the film may have bore a little more relivance had it brought this into mind.
The gory parts of the film were alright, all though pretty laughable. I couldnt care less about the chacters and actually quite enjoyed seeing them under go pleanty of torture. But with the lack of depth to the rest of the film, the torture scenes seemed out of place and unfounded. The film attempted to make a feature of these scenes rather than the story line they where supposed to be supporting.
As for the ending.... Ive never laughed so much. For a film that is ment to be realistic, the way that he just falls over the girls who set him up, or the "super evil gay torturer" on the train is such rubbish. And as for the kids who he bribes with bubble gum...... WTF?????
Im amazed that Quentin Tarrentino would put his name on this, the dialogue is awful, the plot is daft, and the charcters have no depth. The complete opposite of most tarrentino films.
Who ever even metioned this film in the same sentance as wolf creek needs to think again. While wolf creek is not an amazing film, it beats the living shite out of Hostel.
There have been pleanty of great horror films made since the 80's. None have come from hollywood though. Japan has had more than its fair share, even the UK has had a good few too. I dont know how the american film industry does it. They take any concept for a horror/thriller film, and turn it into the shittest film ever. Ring, Grudge etc..... I bet the US version of oldboy will really reach new hights of depravity and utter shiteness.
Do not watch Hostel unless you want to laugh at how crap it is.

fair play man.
I saw a poster that said something along the lines of "absolutely the most goriest, sickest and brutal movie ever made"
I nearly choked on a sandwich laughing. anything that claims that on a poster in the high street is guaranteed to be shite.
