What with various other commitments, I haven't produced a note for bloody ages. But the old desire is stirring, the keyboard fingers are being limbered up again as we speak, and shortly I'm going to have a stab at it again. No innuendo intended. I want to make ONE pro quality tune, one thing worthy of, if not actually put on wax before I die. You hear about people like Alexander the Great, a man who conquered the known world before he was twenty five. You see young prodigies in various fields like Rooooney and Limewax. But I'm not greedy, and, as I say, all I want is that one tune.

However, I dont have that much in the way of technical equipment, so I thought Id just run my basic set up through you lot, and hopefully you'll tell me if theres something I NEED to have thats holding me back. My own opinion is that even with the pitiful list I'm about to write, I have more than people previously had who made brilliant stuff, and so theres no reason I can't. But let me know, cos I only want to start putting in the effort if I'm on a level playing field, and I dont know any other serious producers who can save me a few years by just telling me what the fuck to buy and how to use it.

Right, sorry for the long preamble, I have:

I had no idea the Cronox had a sampler in it,..god dam,..gotta check that shit out,..anyway,..if you want a solid sampler with a slicer in it like recycle,...the mighty "Kontakt 2's" is the way to go,..it's the ultimate sampler imo,..and the sound quality is tops,..Battery suck's for sound quality imo, to many crackles,..they might have sorted that with Battery 2 but anyway,.once you get used to Kontakt 2,..you'll find that Battery's perty dam limited,..hope this help's,..Kontakt is for shure one of my best investment's ive ever made,..gonna check the Cronox sampler...that shit crazy.

With pluggo alone you already should have enough

If you know Max/MSP, and how to make a pluggo of it that is

You can do about everything every other plugin does with it

using other peoples drum loops like it or not is lame. lame. lame. lame. make your own beats, is what I say.. Ive only recently realised that most people steal other peoples beats and change a likkle of it. thats bollox in my opinion and a complete rip off

I use redrum, put a kick on 1 and 11, a snare on 5 and 13, and build em from there.... taking samples from other peoples beats is cool, thats what a sample is, I just dont agree with taking a whole loop and changing the elements... making a beat is as big a part of production as is any other process, why not just take all your favorite tunes and sample bits of those and throw them together? im sure a lot of people do

Dude its not even a matter of having a drum kit. It makes it somewhat easier since you have in your face finger control. But if you look at my breaks, everyone of them is hand done with no drum machine just one hit samples - kick, snare, hat, sometime tom. Except for amens. then I render to a new track, and then cut/splice the shit out of them. I guess it depends on what your style is, and what your liking is. But I am all about program control. You have a lot of good stuff to make beats with, its just a matter of, is it worth the money, and do you know how to use it correctly? that is what the real deal is. Thats my opinion!

One crucial bit of kit your missing is an audio editor to alter your samples with.

Get a new PC ... install battery ... install kontakt ... deinstall stuff lile pro52 ... softsynths are shit ... work with samples ... get wav-files ... and good vst-plugz....nomad bluetubes... WavesPlatinBundle... expensive shit only ... for classic efx at least ... some experimental tools perhaps? ... PiWarP ... and gates on so on ... try creating a library with sounds you like and you want to hear ... and forget all the tech-talk - your dreams will be fullfilled in the end and after some time of hard work on YOUR orchestra ... that you´ll NEVER find in a synth - and especially not in a stupid softsynth .... and should think about WHAT YOU WANT TO DO? after 10yrs i have certain tools for certain sound - and some sounds are very special - so - i mean check out ableton live versa cubase and you´ll see what i mean ... both are special in some way ...
