i want to do this:
when a string melody is playing (with a ton of reverb on its body) and i place a basskick , the echo of that string muffles the basskick too much imo.
so i want the echo of the string quiet when the bass kicks...
but how should i do that ?
-maybe do it by hand , record button and reeverb on/off
-?
i hope y'all understand what i mean
thanx in advantage

It's called "you didn't read the whole text"- What the guy is meaning is that when the bassdrum starts kickin the reverb should be quiet, but only when the bassdrum kicks? Or am I totally wrong to? This is made by a sidechaining compressor, and is called ducking.

ez mate
true, I didn't read properly, sidechaining would get the deal done. first you would have to isolate the reverb output from the main sound, then run through the compressor and sidechain it with the kick..

It can be done without the compressor, you can use mute or volume knob to get it done. Just sidechain it with a kick detector.

when reverb get's in the way i sometimes bounce whatever's reverbed to a wav,.. that way you can manually chop off what you don't want and still have the same reverb everywhere els....

LMFAO!
then I was right in the first placel.. you need an abrupt stop of reverb. gated reverb does precisely that..

If all you want is for the reverb to stop when the bass kicks, why not just automate the effect on/off switch. Alternitively, if you want the reverb to stay on but to get quieter when the bass kicks, use a compressor with a side chain input.

I was thinking of that too.
Sidechaining or automating would work just as good I think. Automating the on/of could be too abrupt and sound bad though, maybe you will need to fade out the amount of effect a little (again by automating it).

kinda a long winded way of doing it but its how i would do it cos im kinda a beginner lol
why not mix down just the string bit, import the audio file of the strings n just cut the tail of the reverb off the end?
should work even if its a sketchy way of doing it
