first listen
nice ambiance. kinda surprised by the birds chirping, and even more surprised by the deep synth growl. this all goes together well tho. not my flavour, but i can feel the vibe. the drop was kinda tame. i had to strain my ears to notice that was a bassline and not a low string. oh, my bad, that was the sequence leading up to a breakdown...
im getting some distortion on my end. might be a little too much low end action, like a clash with your fx and the bass, or just too much low end bass. things get smoother around 3:40. i dig this flow. hmm, then this synth build comes in. kinda surprised me. looking back, the theme of this track doesn not change, which is good, but the elements come and go pretty quick. just when i get used to hearing something, its gone. it is almost like you had 2 or 3 ideas going, and decided to merge them all into this little tune. im gonna listen again.
second take:
now that i have a feel for the tune... you have some kicks in the intro, but they do not correspend to the beat that rings in. they seem kinda pointless. man that bassline sounds so far away. i can pick it out a little better on this run through. it is on the cusp of rumbling. overall, its a long wait for the drop. then when it hits, there is serious distortion from all the sounds going on.
dont get me wrong. i think you have sequenced a nice little track here. it does not hit my dj side at all, due to the overall length of time before the drop and the overall feel. but it does hit me from a dnb perspective. i got into dnb from downbeats and ambiance, so i totally resepct the work you put into this. there is just some engineering work that still needs to be done.
the change up around 4:40 (my space cuts off the second timer) is nice. it is this part here that makes me think you were merging ideas into one track. it is my favourite part of the track.
overall:
i liked the outro best. the intro was neat, but it set me up for a sound that was not delivered when the beat kicked it. then the distortion from the meat of the track was a turn off. i think you know what you are doing, and you should definitely keep at it. not every track is a winner. i have not posted enough to grade tracks yet, but i would slot this one right on the middle.
hope this helps. peace.

cheers man for the cool review, heaps of good tips here.
the track was made over several weeks/ moods, so to keep myself interested
i tend to keep the track moving and changing, I was aiming for progressive dnb (does this exist?) I am also producing on cheep ass speakers(i got them for free, so its all good), so it is kinda hard to master. Will take it to my friends and give it a work over with the UAD card he just got(lucky bastard).
I havn't mixed dnb yet so not really sure on how to make it good to mix.
With the way the pad is at the start it would pro have to be the first track im gussing. I wasn't really aiming for a track to mix, just one to listen atm.
But this is the aim for my music eventually, good to get feedback on this perspective tho. Might make a mixable version, any tips on what to do to it to make it more mixable?
I might make a remix with the end of the track only. See where it goes.
Thanks man for takin the time to review,

progressive dnb is pretty close to IDB. i was thinking that when i listened, so if that was your aim, you definitly succeeded.
before i upgraded to 7.1 surround, i used old monitor speakers, the ones that attached to PC monitors. i had to use headphones to make the subs
remastering is the right idea. your friend will hook you up.
peace

didnt check the previous version
weird intro.. string gives a prodigy - experience feel to it. weather experience comes to mind. the bird makes it uneasy for me. definitely different I'll give ya that
expected an even weirder beat but this was just too standard when it drops. reverb bit too heavy on the cymbals
lol the bird goes supersonic at 1:09
think that lead could be a hell lot clearer. it got lost in the reverbs which sound cool so I suggest a dry layer of the same lead on top. even an octave up maybe
cool noises thruout.. getting a bit bored towards the half, needs more work on the transitions. to oppose the whole reverb-thing you got goin you could introduce a totally dry part with no reverb whatsoever, it would work nicely and bring out the other parts of the tune IMO
part which starts at 4:13 is the best for me. it would work much better without the reverbs though
has a heavy techno vibe, you could maybe break that up with a couple of broken beats. unless it was the intention ofcourse
whoa, haven't given a more detailed review in a while
