Every now n then when i download a wav file,..like-> (Surya's Demomix July 2004)..for example,.. Wink ,..i get this window tellin me--> ("Window's Media Player cannot play the File, The player might not support the codec that was used to compress the file") Confused ...anyway so this happen's with the odd sample in a pack too Mad ,..fuckin suck's really,..anyway cheer's for some input on this shitty->"codec" mistery?

Oink? That demomix is just MP3.

A codec is a set of rules that tells how certain files have to be encoded and decoded, hance the name.
MP3 is acually a special one coz there are no rules of how to be encoded, only about how to be decoded.
Xvid eg is a codec for encoding and decoding video files.

If you enable the MPEG2 and subtitle options during the installation you can even watch DVD movies in media player without having to buy DVD playing software.

It's a nice codec pack, it plays nearly everything and is regularly updated.
