Why would it be out of use in digital ages? It IS digital. DAT = Digital Audio Tape. I think it can still be usefull to make some high quality recordings. I'm no specialist in that stuff though.

Oh yeah the good old DAT machine with those sweet little tapes. I still have one lying around from the good old days before CD-R became a reliable recording medium. I used to love it, compared to analog cassettes the quality (ie CD quality
) was unbelievable, but it was so cranky to work with (didn't start recording immediately, weird track indexing etc).
Yes it is actually obsolete technology now, but if you don't have a good sound card it is possible the converters in the DAT are of better quality than those of the sound card, so you could use the DAT as an A/D converter and then transfer digitally to the computer.
If you got a good sound card it can eg be used to record live DJ sets, it's sturdier than a laptop, but you'll need to switch tapes

he says true. a big tip for Digi 002, if you can get a light pipe to the Digi, you can get 8 ore tracks to recordin, through the 8 track DAt's ADAT i think they are called. I see studio's doing that.

ADAT and DAT are completely different formats. DATs are really small cassettes, while ADATs are big ass VHS tapes!

I acually have a DAT recorder standing next to me now. Recorded some stuff from it yesterday. Like the original, unedited basskick used in 'Pump up the Jam'
