No please people don't feel obliged to donate, every donation is gratefully accepted, but there is no pressure at all!! Nobody has to donate if they don't really support the idea for 200%.

I would pay for the whole server myself if nobody helped out, but it would take me several months to get that amount of cash together. I already have a huge stack of unpaid bills lying around and am working my ass off to get everything paid. The old server breaking down came really unexpected and I can't plan this in financially atm. In the meanwhile the site has moved to another server so it can continue but we are stuck with a bloody slow shared connection and without our precious tracks and sample packs...

FYI I have spent over 6000 euro in running the site up to now, not counting the many many hours of time I've invested in it. It's just that I really love doing this, seeing people helping eachother out, watching producers improve their skills over time, and seeing dozens of people hanging out on the site at times. We started out 3 years ago with a handful of members and a license of woltlab burning board, and see where we are now!

why are you trying to buy a fast server if you dont have the money?. i dont get the point. why dont you rent some webspace for e.g. 5 € a month. you'd have everything you need, to keep the community together. its not really about much webspace or a fast connection, its about keepin the people together i think.

i like this site, but i cant send any money...

btw. plz use another skin for the site, this is horrible Tongue

Again: if we do that we can't give any hosting of MP3s, samplepacks or whatever, only a forum. And it would probably be a pretty slow movie too!

The reason we need a fast server is we want to do it the right way, not the cheap way. Otherwise we'd just be another forum.

And I can't change the 'skin' because the site doesn't use any skins lol. It's not a prefab slap on and go site, it's completely hand made. I'd be happy to change the design, but I can't afford to pay a graphic designer. Let's get the new server up first.

well if you can manage it, it would be great. if not, it wouldnt be a problem. there are a lot of websites which offer free webspace. if someone produces tracks he should be able to get some webspace.
ok the samples would be nice but arent really needed.

and what do you mean by just another forum? what does a producer forum need? producers with knowledge, skills and the will to share it by commenting other tracks. do we have that? yes we do...

You don't need a "fast" server - it's better to have a solid reliable "slower" server anyway Smile

PS: Sun has Opterons starting from about $800 already... You just need to make sure you have enough and reliable (raid1 or even raid5?) storage...
