Breakz.be started somewhere in 2000 as an experiment with portal-software. Antik and Cjpa worked together at Life at the time and Antik had to make a portal for the Life-intraweb. So, to test stuff out, he made a phpnuke-site with a forum. He slapped some images and colours at it and threw it on the web. In that time, the Belgian DnB-community gathered at the boups-website. But in their opinion the forum wasn't really informative and so they thought: ‘Why don’t we start a portal ourselves?’
People started to ‘hype’ the forum and since the guys behind the site already had a lot of contacts in the Belgian party scene, the forum started to grow pretty rapidly. Soon after, they teamed up with Sike, Easy, Woodcarver and the Gamorah-lads and the concept of Breakz as a community and as an organization started to take form.
In 2002 they organized the Breakz-tour. A tour through Belgium with nothing but local talents. There was a mixtape competition beforehand to get some unknown dj's on the decks. The Tour was a big success. The parties provided a meeting ground for the members of the forum to chat in real life and a lot of friendships took roots here.
The Tour was concluded with a grand finale in Who's Who's land in Brussels.
Later that year, a complete redesign was done and a new server was purchased to host a lot of the side-projects that sprung out of the Breakz-community.
For 2006 the breakz.be crew ‘s aiming to become bigger and stronger than ever before. The website will face a major metamorphosis in March. Breakz.be will get 2 subdomains: dnb.breakz.be will be focusing on the drum’n’bass scene, while nu.breakz.be will be covering the so-called ‘urban’ styles (breakbeat, dubstep, UK garage, grime etc). Each domain is supported by a group of volunteers that will provide the website of interviews and reviews (party as well as tune reviews). Both sites will have their own forum to give people with the same musical preference an online platform where they can meet and where hopefully positive collaborations see the daylight. Our goal is to educate our scenes as we think it’s important that the crowd knows the artists, the tunes, the labels etc. We ‘ll inform our readers by writing interviews and reviews. We ‘ll also give our visitors the opportunity to upload their homemade tunes to our server.
Also in 2006, a second breakz.be tour is planned. Each month the tour will visit another part of Belgium. It will lift off on March 11th at a secret location in Limburg and will end at December 31st in Brussels. In between the tour will hit Ghent, Antwerp, Liege, Dendermonde, Ostend, Hasselt and many more!
Expect 2006 to become a storming year for the entire breakz.be alliance!
