This probably a dumb question but when you're manually beatmapping an acapella track in say Acid Pro or whatever, how do you determine the correct downbeat, timing, etc.

I've done plenty of trail and error but it never seems to time up right. I was wondering if theres some sort of trick to this???

I take it every half decent audio app has a click generator, use it while playing the accapela in the background, push the tempo up or down and you'll have the bpm quite easy.

      naw man.
find the original song and beatmap THAT, then you'll basically have the vocal's bpm the closest possible. also you can see the way they dropped the vocals etc. to give you ideas on using it proper.
but it'll never be perfect--the song wasn't recorded over your beat, so, you see, the vocalist wont sync up perfectly to anything his/her track is set up against. unless of course it's on some robotically programmed shit.
hope this helps. it's what i do.

I just listen to the acapella with nothing added and try to determine where the first beat of a measure goes. Then I just put it in the right place at once. No trial and error.

You must be doing it differently than me cuz in Acid it does a bunch of mapping on its own so your downbeat and measures have to be pretty perfect or the timing will eventually fade off.

Thanks for the help tho.

cheers
