THere's no such thing as "the best" instrument;
the best instrument is the instrument YOU "play" the best imo.
Imagine Micael Jaxon playing Stradivarius,
Or Pavarotti rhyming "Insane in the Brain"...

Ive been producin dance music for a while, since octamed on Amiga's, currently signed to a small hardcore label, doin a bit of donk & drum & bass at the mo & ive discovered that Rob Papens BLUE has got some really typical usable good D&B bass sounds in its presets & fairly easy to edit. Ive used most of the vst's mentioned but this one has it all the way

dunno if im just being stupid but when ever i use synths such as the rob papens ones or z3ta and some s, i have to start with some stupid preset rather than just a simple waveform that i can do what i want with, i end up going round turning everything off so i can start from scratch. is this my inexperience with these synths or are they made like that ?

Heh, you need to initialise the patch, google the name of the synth with init patch if you can't find an option.
Can't belive no-one mentioned Predator or Sylenth.
Also, it's more about knowing what waveforms/basic methods to use than just getting a top-dollar synth and facerolling your korg controller
