Trance is more or less sets of Chords that are layered on each other to produce that uplifiting sensation. Take any pad sound, put and arpp. on it, add some reverb, possible d delay and you will get the overall sound for one layer.

The technique that is tough in trance is to combine the different Chords, Oct, etc. together to keep the flow of the tune, to have it build up through sounds then to drop off or release, only to build again. This is just something that you will need to practice and learn... good old trail and error. Take some tunes that you like, and try to imitate the sound, listen to the track, and breakdown the structure of the tune (what comes in when, and what sounds carry the tune).
