The basic version is really cheap, around 30€ actually if you buy it online.
Or you could try to win the One Hot Minute competition, it's one of the things you can win there.

I myself use renoise to produce my music using samples (it's a tracking programm) and then I use Cool Edit Pro to convert it to an mp3 file so it's a decent size for distribution.

7-10meg mp3 == decent size in comparison to .mod ?

(sorry off topic but this is a thread in a thread -stuff allrd Smile ) I remember when .mod files used to be 100k or 1 meg max in their size. So exactly how large are yours? Happy

Oh and back to topic, I Use Cubase SX 2.2, occasionally old Propellerheads ReBirth (which is free download nowdays), Ableton Live Lite or something else daisychained to Cubase via Re-Wire. But I really really want to have something with good step sequencer.

I've tried most of them, FL, Logic, Tracktion, Reason - I hate Cubase 2.2 because it is so non-intuitive and slow, but others are even worse for me. Ableton Live is onto something, though...
