Eh?

When you goto write a song, or listen to a song for the first time, what are you looking for? Cool sounds? somethign that's dark? something that's making nod your head? do you like it when the song makes you laugh? or do you want a song that makes you want to jump up and down, in a timley manner?

is there anything you don't like?

Eh?

none of these. of course if I know the artist, I can assume what's it going to sound like. but for something I hear for the first time I try to be objective without any expectations

Rythm & melody.
If those aren't good, the tune sucks.

I'd like to hear "an idea". Which is what most of the tunes are lacking Smile

I'd like to hear a good quality sound that fit with the mood, and a good tune, that is interesting
to listen to, all that stuff.

true

most songs by britney spears are immacualte production, amazing lyrics, good tune, and nice song stucture. why don't you like tunes like that? if you like anything, than why wouldn't you like britneys?

how about, what don't you want to hear?

My idea of a good tune be it drum & bass or hip hop or any other genre, is something you can relate to lyrics wise, something you listen to and relate with, it makes the whole listening experience that much more enjoyable

Same here Emblem,

It's all the same for me, the song could be evil, funky, freaky or something else, as long as the sounds fit together and make a good atmosphere ... a good vocal and some cool drums are also important for me ...

I hear this alot, and with no intention to be offencive, I could agree less. I think music should create a mood, noy compliment one. Its the same as with anything artistic. Its not like youd look at a painting and say, "Its good but Im not in the right mood" You allow the painting to influence your emotions and stir up some kind of a response.

The thing I look for in music is something that conjours up images in my brain while Im listening to it. I love to walk around at night listening to music on a CD player. Youd be amazed at how much your mood can be altered by music when there isnt any visual stimulant to distract you. Try listening to Venetian snares "All the children are dead" while walking around at night. Even the hardest fucker out there will be checking behind himself for something. 2 diffent pieces of music can have such opposing affects on you. One track can make a yellow streat light seem warm and pleasent. Another track could make the same street light seem sinister and eiree.

Maybe this is just me. A lot of the time ideas for tunes come from an experiance of an event which has created some sort of emotion response, and rather than trying to compliment it, I try to re-create it. That way I like to think that the listener will be able to feel the same emotions whenever they listen to it, rather than hoping that the listener is in the right mood for the track at the specific time they do hear it.
