hey there. recently i got a Nord Lead rack synth, and i have a USB to midi cable, with all the usual stuff--an in, an out, and a usb for the pc end--and i'm wondering how i can get its sound into my pc, because i'm new to midi. all i can do right now is make the pc play the synth with the piano roll, and the only way i can hear the sound is to plug a set of speakers or headphones into the synth, so none of the sound is really goin into the pc. do i have to get a mixer and route that into my pc, recording the synth through there? i'm wondering if i can somehow use the piano roll to play the synth and hear it in the computer...if you know how to do this with fruity and/or acid please let me know the steps?! thanks!

it occurs to me now...why didnt i put this in hardware? My Mistake

Welcome to the wonderful world of hardware Pleased

MIDI signals do not transmit audio, only data such as note numbers, velocity and note on/off signals etc.

To get the audio into your PC you'll need to record it. Hook up the output of the synth to the input of your soundcard, create a new audio track in your software and record it while playing back the piano roll.

If you can get your hands on a small mixing desk it is even more fun, just plug the outputs of the synth and the soundcard in the mixer, let them play together and feel the creative power as you tweak the sound in real time Happy

So... there is a midi signal that is routed to the midi input on the synth. Then you have a mixer wich mix the signal of the computer with the output signal from the synth. Then the synthsignal don't come from the computer, but from the synth. And when you are finished you record the synth to your sequencer in the musicprogram that you use. Is this right? But then you have to finish your synth at one moment becouse otherwise the synth will be set to other parameters. Unless you have a digital wich can store presets for different songs.
