For 3-4 years or so I have been mc'ing hipho, but I would like to try mc'ing on dnb. Is there a great difference? Some tips might be welcome

well, I can't say anything about my Mc'ing skills (don't want to brag), personally I think I could do a lot better. An opinion (greyone?) would be nice. I have to work on my accent in English too I think, which will be quite hard since all of my lyrics are french.

Personally I don't think an accent is necesserily a bad thing, it just depends on how it comes out and how understandable the lyrics are. Some MCs make accents sound cool even. Should it not work at all there's no problem doing it in french is there?

It's a matter of personal taste and stuff. Really individual thing.
__ Right now I'm in the process of making up a good sig.

The biggest differences:
- Tempo: DnB is quite a bit faster. I've met MCs that found 130bpm too fast and couldn't keep up
DnB is mostly above 170bpm
- Structure. Quite obviously the structure of DnB songs is different. Also: know thy songs!

don't worry, I think 130 bpm is too slow

about :
-the bpm's: you can rhyme over dnb at any speed you want! I can spread (almost) all my hip hop lyrics over dnb tunes... but besides of that, there's a million ways of rhymin' over dnb! j-Just find the differend rhythms/beat paterns in the songs and do some experiments...
-the accent; When I do hiphop shows in Belgium people always talk about the accent. "yeah it's all good, but you still hear you're from L'Burg..." Always the same crap. On the other hand I've worked with a lot of international dnb artists(dj's as well as mc's), and they all tell me; "you can't hide where you're from, so be proud of your accent. If you would take on a fake accent you would sound fake as fuck..." And they even digg the accent... so don't try to hide it! But you always have to be sound clear and crips, so the crowd (even an international crow) understands what you're goin' on about! Just make sure you learn a lot of words and how to express yourself in decent English.
-french; You can always give it a shot. I even did a bit of dutch mc-ing over dnb back in the days... Still most heads will only appreciate English rhymes.
-Content vs Party lyrics; Within hiphop is very important to come with smart lyrics containing punches, metaphors, content, story lines,... When you start rhymin' over dnb, pure party lyrics and crowd hyping have to become a part of your delivery.
I still think that it's a good way to start out as a hiphop mc before becoming a dnb mc. It learns you a lot about lyricism... which can become a huge advantage when rhymin' over dnb. I know some people say that a dnb mc has to focus on the crowd, the dj and the party itself... nevertheless I still believe that content, delivery and crowd anticipation can't be sepperated. It's the combination of these elements that can bring an mc to the next level...
And for those who don't know me yet: this is not the one and only truth... it's only an opinion ; )
cheers,
d
