If you're already running Firefox: do a 'check for updates' if you don't get a notice to upgrade...

I'm running more and more into trouble with IE, am thinking of imposing restrictions on IE users. No forum access, no track downloads etc.

It's really easy to use a standards compliant browser like firefox. It only takes 2 minutes to install and it is free. I don't see why I should put up with having to change my code all the time so it works in that outdated Internet Explorer piece of crap.

Help might be on the way: IE7 should be released next summer. Only a few years late!!!

What kind of problems are you having? The forum should work fine in IE I should think?

CSS problems mainly. The new design in the forum took 5 minutes to knock up in standard CSS, which worked fine in Firefox, Opera and Netscape. Then it took more than an hour to make it work in IE.

A whole lot of really nice CSS functions are completely MISSING from IE, or work in a half assed way. There's no support for transparent PNG, it's not possible to scale the text on a page properly, not possible to control the size of printed pages, ...

Yeah, I know what you're talking about. I spent 4 hours (at least) fixing one stupid CSS bug in IE last week.

Maybe this helps. It solves a lot of CSS problems in IE (not all though). It's not a real sollution, but if you don't want to spend hours on fixing smth for IE, it's usefull, and other browsers don't notice it at all, and the pages validate correctly for W3C with the latest version. I tested it on my website (which looks horrible in IE w/o it) - and it works rather well. It automaticly applies the "png transparency trick" for IE on all PNG images in a webpage, but that still has some issues.

Here's my page with the IE fix.
Here's my page with the the IE fix disabled. If you open both in IE, you'll notice the difference Smile

PS: there's nothing usefull on the page, just content to test the layout (which still has lots of bugs, too lazy to fix em Wink )

Another good site for solving IE CSS problems: http://www.positioniseverything.net/explorer.html
A lot of common problems are explained and mostly a solution is given too.
